My Z needs to go on a diet :-)

Recommended Posts

GVWR for my early 260z (with Factory a/c is listed at 3010lbs - figure ~ 2700lbs curb). I would like to get her a little lighter.

I will start with the low hanging fruit - a/c is in-effective so I'm going to start with removing that. I figure the compressor alone must weigh ~ 30lbs ! any other suggestions ?

You'll need to tell us how light you want to go. Myself I've always wanted to have a stripped Z for the street but loving to drive a Z year round, a heater is a must & the list goes on. I'm torn between fun & creature comforts. You'll have to consider what you want to keep depending on your wants & needs. Mark

My first suggestion: don't use GVWR as a guide to curb weight unless you also have the maximum load capacity on hand (GVWR=Curb Weight + Max Load).

An early 260Z weighs in at just over 2400lb, confirmed on actual scales and not internet numbers.

Swap to early style fiberglass bumpers, ditching the stock bumper brackets. You'll have to fabricate brackets for the bumpers. Here's a link to how I did it for stainless steel bumpers: 260Z Air Dam and Front Bumper | Fiddling With Z Cars

Swap to carbon fiber hood and hatch.

Ditch the spare tire.
