Travel'n Man Posted February 22, 2015 Share #49 Posted February 22, 2015 Completed changing all my fluids today with the transmission gear oil . The transmission now has Redline MT90. Now that I have changed it, I know I'll soon run across a late ZX 5 speed, do the swap, and get to change the gear oil again. Not sure what diff you are running now but if you make the change for the ZX 5 speed be sure to research a 3.9 diff - if you have the $ review a STi LSD......it might put a grin on your face Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/50701-2015-what-did-you-do-towith-your-z-today/?page=5#findComment-464085 Share on other sites
S30Driver Posted February 22, 2015 Share #50 Posted February 22, 2015 Thanks Travel'n man, you read my mind on the 3.9. (currently is the 3.54) Will check STi option. psdenno Posted February 22, 2015 Share #51 Posted February 22, 2015 Just clean the float valve......if it's dirty, gas will discharge through your air cleaner and onto the floor, hopefully without disastrous results!I'm going to get a couple new gaskets for the float bowls before I open them up and then, hopefully, clean the crud and corruption around the valve to fix the problem. The last thing I need is an EXTERNAL combustion engine.Dennis Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/50701-2015-what-did-you-do-towith-your-z-today/?page=5#findComment-464091 Share on other sites
oranngetang Posted February 22, 2015 Share #52 Posted February 22, 2015 Rumor has it an '04-05 STI R180 3.90:1 LSD will run you about $500, plus $500 for the stubs from Wolf Creek. A fairly inexpensive LSD option in a great ratio. oranngetang Posted February 22, 2015 Share #53 Posted February 22, 2015 Grose jet valves may be a good option if you have them apart. Talk to ZTherapy for a pair, if that's the issue. oranngetang Posted February 22, 2015 Share #54 Posted February 22, 2015 Oh, I should mention though that I was tuning the carbs a few days ago and my rear float chamber shot a stream of fuel about 3 feet in the air spontaneously.... i am running their jets I promise they work better than stock though! siteunseen Posted February 23, 2015 Share #55 Posted February 23, 2015 They don't have Grose jets anymore, or at least I didn't get them a couple of months ago with my rebuild kit. Seems like I googled them and they're not made anymore. The ones now look like OE Nissan but with a skinnier pin, they look like valve stems without the hat. More like these, no ball bearing. psdenno Posted February 23, 2015 Share #56 Posted February 23, 2015 I went to my local Nissan dealer's parts department today to see if I could order a couple float bowl gaskets and the young guy behind the counter says they are NLA. Anyone gotten them from a dealer lately? (part# 16064-22010) I see that they're available from a few places on line, including Courtesy Nissan, but i hate to pay almost $10 shipping on a $1.25 gasket if I can get them locally. I've had better luck with the older parts guy at the dealership in tracking down Datsun parts.Dennis Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/50701-2015-what-did-you-do-towith-your-z-today/?page=5#findComment-464258 Share on other sites
gnosez Posted February 24, 2015 Share #57 Posted February 24, 2015 I was supposed to clear the snow off the roof but after hearing the news about Mr. K's passing, the only thing to do was to get back to work on the Z. A dual EGT (#2 & #5 header pipes), a fuel pressure, tranny temp and two O2 sensors gauges. All to better know when to hit the kill switch before the whole engine is toast. psdenno Posted February 24, 2015 Share #60 Posted February 24, 2015 Just got back from the local Nissan dealer. Today, an older parts specialist was behind the counter. I gave him the part number for the float bowl gasket that was NLA yesterday. He looked it up and asked how many hundred I wanted. I ordered three at $1.70 each and they'll be here Thursday morning. Lesson learned: Always ask for the "old guy" behind the counter when ordering vintage Z parts at the Nissan dealership.Dennis 2 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/50701-2015-what-did-you-do-towith-your-z-today/?page=5#findComment-464348 Share on other sites
