I did the same thing to my ash tray, and the result was about the same.  They have some nice paints lately, no?  I keep  quarters in mine tho, so the finish did not stay as nice as when it was just finished-  there are some scars from the coins.  I might consider a baked-on chrome paint/coating I used on the engine parts.

Will (HLS30.com) made an attempt at getting the perfect, durable finish on an ashtray, but I don't remember what the final result was.

Did you coat it with Polyurethane also?   I was thinking about wear and tear when I painted and Poly was what I had on the shelf so It got 2-3 coats. Time will tell as to durability on the cheap. I think Powder coating would be an option if it were included with other parts.

Jim D., How long have you been in B'ville? I have a history from there.

Haha!! Exactly!  :D

And performance like that only comes from the improved later version of the parking brake handle with the extra notch for more stamina and improved holding power. There's some parking brake trivia for ya!

I can tell you from experience that once you've grabbed ahold and yanked one of the newer ones up and down a couple times, you'll prefer it to an older one.

PS - Did you use catalyzed polyurethane?

"Zup"

Impressive Parking Brake knowledge Captain O! I am often humbled by many members like you on this site and no, just regular Poly.  I am cheap and can occasionally be lazy.

You are right TomoHawk, polyurethane clear will yellow.  If it lasts, maybe in this case it will give nice "patina" like they say on Antiques Roadshow  .

My parents found me under a cabbage leaf there Zup, When it was Waltons 5&10 but was transported out in the second grade.  I still have Kin there, although the crowd has thinned.  I had a cousin that said we had so many relatives there that he had to go outside the county just to get a date. Even then he had to check the family tree.

All jokes and double entendre aside, I do think that if you really have to pull the parking brake handle up that far to hold the rear wheels, then you're in need of adjustment somewhere..

And thanks for putting up with our childish humor.  :)
