RED71Z Posted January 8, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 8, 2015 I know this is not an emergency to many but I took my early 4 spd transmission out to swap with 5 spd not knowing the shifter was different.I am now in limbo until I can find a shifter I know it is my own fault but I am learning.Any help would be appreciated.I have some parts if someone needs a trade or would buy outright. Thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/50743-need-a-shifter-for-a-b-type-trans/ Share on other sites
Zed Head Posted January 8, 2015 Share #2 Posted January 8, 2015 Send a message to borini63. He's been selling parts for years and seems very dependable. I haven't seen a complaint. http://www.classiczcars.com/user/14050-borini63/ But remember that there are several different "71B" shifters. The ZX's used 71B's, as did the later 240Z's. the 260Z's, and the 280Z's, But the ZX's shifters are differently shaped than the Z's. You probably want a 240Z or early 260Z shifter. You may still need to do some modifying. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/50743-need-a-shifter-for-a-b-type-trans/#findComment-461450 Share on other sites

metalmonkey47 Posted January 8, 2015 Share #4 Posted January 8, 2015 With the plastic ball on the end and has the pin that retains it to the shifter?? Dude I can get you one LOCAL like tomorrow. Shoot me a PM and I can tell you where to find one or I'll go pick it up for you. beermanpete Posted January 8, 2015 Share #5 Posted January 8, 2015 The Z Store has new short-throw shifters. This one might work: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/classic22c01/20-1054 Call them and ask about other options. EuroDat Posted January 8, 2015 Share #6 Posted January 8, 2015 If you are going to modify the shifter (Intead of cutting the tunnel and console) I wouldn't start with a short-throw shifter. You loose height when you modify it to come 60mm back and a short-throw is already shorter. Make sure its for the FS5W71B transmission.chas Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/50743-need-a-shifter-for-a-b-type-trans/#findComment-461460 Share on other sites
metalmonkey47 Posted January 10, 2015 Share #7 Posted January 10, 2015 Can anyone chime in on what shifter will work on these, and clear the console? I've seen quite a few, from the truck shifters with the bend to clear the seat, and the S130 shifters with almost no bend, and much shorter.
