Posted March 8, 201510 yr comment_465133 I have a question about lowering spring height vs. (old) stock spring height. I purchased what I believed were a used set of Suspension Techniques linear lowering springs. They have ST Front stickers in front. When I compare the rear pair with my original set, the ST springs are around 3" shorter. Is this normal? I can seem to compress the original springs to the ST springs' height quite easily. ST rear springs on left, original rear springs on right Stickers on front springs Thanks in advance. March 8, 201510 yr comment_465137 Yes, shorter are normal for sporty springs... they are stiffer and do not compress as much as the softer originals. March 8, 201510 yr comment_465147 I just measured one of my Suspension Techniques springs that is out of my car and it is a little less than 11 1/2". I cant remember if that is the front or rear spring but it is a Suspension Techniques spring. and you will not need a spring compressor with these springs. April 2, 201510 yr comment_466967 Any advice on rear wheel rub? Mine are rubbing when I accelerate, hit bumps, etc... I'm not sure if coilovers can solve this or what but I'd really like to NOT cut the fenders and keep the wheels on. I'm stumped! April 3, 201510 yr comment_466971 Wheel rub sounds like a wheel offset issue or too fat a tire. Details? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/51073-lowering-springs-vs-original-springs-height/#findComment-466971 Share on other sites

I'm stumped! You can purchase universal Urethane spacers that fit on the strut under the spring. Couple of the big Urethane bushing manufacturers make them. You can also find them at Race shops that handle Circle Track Parts. Either spacers that go under the spring or " Spring rubbers " that go between the coils. I'm going to do some reading on the topic and see what I need. Thank you! I didn't even know these were out there! April 20, 20159 yr comment_468129 I just dealt with the same issues of tire rub on my 1970 240z this week but mine was with OEM springs. I can tell you that coil overs with stiffer springs total took care of this. I have 225/60/14 and have no rub now and I love the ride! I also switched to Bilstein B8 Sport all around, spring rate at 300. Much better handling, no rub, and adjustable ride height. Highly recommended.
