That Ozzy Guy Posted March 24, 2003 Share #2 Posted March 24, 2003 Why would you think this is overkill? These engines aren't that powerful (they have reasonable hp and not alot of torque) although the power to weight ratio would be good with one of these in a Z. Stryder Posted March 24, 2003 Share #3 Posted March 24, 2003 I would love to have a skyline motor in my Z:love:. Only thing is I bet the engine swap would be a b*tch. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/5283-overkill-for-your-fairladies/#findComment-31129 Share on other sites
Ivan Posted March 24, 2003 Share #4 Posted March 24, 2003 I have this engine 1/2 in my 240not a lot of HP? 250hp 298NM running off 7psi Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/5283-overkill-for-your-fairladies/#findComment-31140 Share on other sites
That Ozzy Guy Posted March 24, 2003 Share #5 Posted March 24, 2003 Ivan, I worded it carefully (reasonable hp) so that no one bites my head off. I know what these engines are capable of as I've seen it first hand. All I wanted to get accross was that this engine is certainly 'no overkill' and that it is a reasonable swap. As for torque, they lack a certain punch in that department. It isn't an 8 after all and you just don't expect that much brute force from them. Ivan Posted March 26, 2003 Share #11 Posted March 26, 2003 yep, the only other thing to add to that is DOHC. mainly used in SkylinesThere are a few in this family, RB20 (T or N/A), RB25 (T or N/A), RB26 twin T and RB30 (T or N/A)These engines are capable (if you have the $ and the insanity) of high hp, I have seen many RB26DETT (out of the Skyline GTR) produce 1000+hp the best I have seen was 1350hp Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/5283-overkill-for-your-fairladies/#findComment-31382 Share on other sites
N5572B Posted March 26, 2003 Share #12 Posted March 26, 2003 Thanks. DOHC means CROSSFLOW HEAD!!! And turbo...how hard to adapt a 5 speed in place of the auto in the ad? Nt that I have $1500 for an engne...that is more than my entire budget a the moment but...(drooling on the keyboard) turbocharged, DOHC, crossflow head...definately MORE Power. Definately sunds like a great transplant in a Z.Cheers,Dave Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/5283-overkill-for-your-fairladies/#findComment-31383 Share on other sites
