Hi all,

I am expecting the site to be down for a day or so, starting Dec 28.  Although I wish I was in a warm and sunny place for the winter break, I am going to be at home chilling by the fire.  During this time,  I am planning an update to our back-end software that will give you more capabilities.  The new design is a lot more flexible and simple to use.  For a quick demo, you can check out my test development site here:  http://test.classiczcars.com

FYI, if you decide to visit the test site, please understand this site is a COPY of our current site.  Anything you post or do on the test site will not be integrated with our current site or migrated to the new design next week.

Thanks!

Mike

Well, the "new" site seems to have all the same information, and be focused on the Z car, so it looks good to me.

I have not been posting much lately, because I was in a driving mode, not a restoration mode. However I cannot say enough good about this site. Without the information here my process of resurrecting my Z would have been infinitely more difficult.

Hey Mike can we still use the test.classiczcars.com during the downtime here?

Thank you and have fun during the work involved with the downtime. (sarcastic smiley)

Hey, it's a good idea but I won't know how to transfer the active data between databases between the sites after the migration.  So, I think it would be better to just put the site on hold until the migration is complete.  When I did the test transfer, it took approx 4-6 hours to complete.  I don't foresee it taking any longer this time unless I have to go back and do it again for some reason.

Not sure if I see any real benefit to the change.... from the front door anyways. I am a fan of the Vbulletin software more I think. Either way, it won't change the amount of time I spend on this great site! LOL

Biggest benefit is overall usability.  The new design is a lot easier on both mobile and computer-based systems and integrates a lot of back-end functionality.   I did give vBulletin a run for their money again (you can see that I migrated our old-old-old site (legacy.classiczcars.com) but that migration was a huge PITA.  vBulletin seems to have quite a big problem with customer support these days.  They also gave up some of their really nice features like the content management system (CMS) and other add-ons that I liked a lot in the old days.  Another big reason I didn't stick with vBulletin was due to the fact they let go most of their development team and had to start over from scratch when they came out with the new software.  They are still working out a lot of kinks...

Anyway, I think you guys will like the newest version much better than this one.
