What the Well-Dressed Z Owner Wears

Recommended Posts

I tend to go with just the turtleneck, gloves, and cap, as the scarf blocks the tailgunners view!

A tweed jacket would do well on the cooler days..

BTW- you can't get stringback gloves any more.  The only options lately are elasric cuffs with snap or velcro straps..So my goal is to get a light off-white turleneck, some deerskin drivong gloves. And light cotton slacks with elastic gloves, a body belt, and maybe a retro racer's jumpsuit (good for Hallowe'en.) I already have a couple berets and the helmet.

When you get the tweed jacket, make sure it's the one with the leather patches on the elbow area of the sleeves.  A pipe is also a nice touch, even if you don't smoke.  Just carrying one and using it as a pointer adds to the aura.

Dennis

Can you get a pipe that fires 45 cal?  lol. (Just kidding.)

Tweed jackets with patches are twice as much as the plain ones, but a nice comfortable cotton windbreaker isn't.

I'd still like to find a plain jumpsuit.

Now you're going all James Bond on me.  Only get a cotton windbreaker if it has a Datsun logo patch on the front.  As for the plain jumpsuit, keep checking the local thrift stores for one piece leisure suits.  The older generation is dying to get rid of them - literally :D

Dennis

I'll do that.  I didn't think a leasure suit would work- can you fire-proof those?  lol.  Probably not, as they are made from petroleum byproducts...   The decent turtlenecks are gone, because they are in-style again, and even Macy's is out of those.

What, no ClassicZClub wear...can't have a lack of representing here!

Hard to believe that boy is now 11, and 5'7" he'll be Taking My keys when he is 16!

If it is cold, my leather bomber jacket or my ZCON 2011 jacket or

Hopefully the next generation will come out a bit prettier.....   :D   ROFL   ;)  (j/k)

Anyway,  I just finished a new getup that was inspired by the vintage races I go to- you know, MGTCs, old jaguars, Elvas, etc.

I got an off-white Dickies jumpsuit and had a nice taylor lady alter it to fit well, sorta like a jogging suit.  Then I got some coloured tape and some patches (American flag, embroidered name, Pennzoil, Michelin, etc.) and a custom iron-on transfer of my sponsor (Bronco's Garage.)  Using some special fabric glue (for attaching patches to clothing) I coated the coloured tape and ironed it on to add stripes to the chest, arms, and legs, then added the patches, to create a vintage racing-style suit.  All I have left to do is to soak the whole thing in the boric acid/borax solution to impart the fire-proofing, like they used to do before there was Nomex.

The dickies jumpsuit ended up looking like an Italian janitor. a jogging suit would look better, but those are all make of synthetics.

How about tobacco products?   The old racers might have a pipe, if you were a jaguar guy, or a cigarette, or a thin cigar, depending on your smoking habits.  Are there any tobacco aficionados following this thread?  Somebody gave me a couple cigarettes last fall for a weekend trip, but the cigarette quickly got limp and fell apart from the humidity (it rained.)  So that leaves the pipe or cigar.  I don't think many Zed drivers would go out in a wool or tweed jacket, so that leaves the cigar.  Which would be the most "appropriate cigar to bite on while you drive?  Something thin and not too long I'd say...
