Part of the reason I want to do a second coat is just to put a nice layer over and piece of that that is exposed. I was so mad at myself when it happened, but I was hurting myself more wasting time trying to fish it out and failing miserably. Zed Head Posted May 28, 2016 Share #38 Posted May 28, 2016 I mentioned this in the novel I wrote in Post 24: the coating has what's called a crosslinking agent in it. The solvents (MEK, acetone, etc.) that carried it in to the tank will be gone pretty quickly but the chemistry might take a little bit longer. I'd keep it somewhere warm so that the crosslinking chemistry (curing) can complete and make the coating durable. Put it outside in the sun and let it bake. If it's well covered inside I wouldn't put another coat in, the strong solvents in the second coat might cause the first coat to swell and come loose from the tank metal. Then you'll have a big floppy balloon of Red-Kote in your tank. siteunseen Posted May 28, 2016 Share #41 Posted May 28, 2016 I think it'll be fine too. Let it sit in the sun and bake a few days then slide it under a table or something for a couple of weeks. If you'll put a clear filter right out of the tank they'll catch whatever breaks loose then replace them, cheap and easy to do.
