hatepotholez Posted April 18, 2016 Share #1 Posted April 18, 2016 I am having issues lining up the hood. The hood does not reach the lock on the firewall and my hood cable came off the hook that holds it to the frame. When I try and close the hood even though it's not locked and flush, the front of it is raised and not flush with the buckets. Things that I did: 1. raised the hood adjustment at the hood. 2. tried adjusting the lock on the frame. 3. tried adjusting the hook on the hood. Also how do I crimp the hood cable bracket on to the cable? Thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/55298-hood-not-closing/ Share on other sites
CanTechZ Posted April 18, 2016 Share #2 Posted April 18, 2016 I would recommend downloading the '73 240 and '74 260 FSM's from our downloads area. Each year more information was added about the hood hinge and latching setup and adjustment, and most of the parts are the same. The same p/n for the hinges was used up to 08/74. As far as the cable issue, are you talking about cable clamp that holds the cable outer sheath or the barrel shaped end that is crimped onto the cable itself, if the latter you probably new a new cable. Here is a link to the parts info for the 240Z hood latch, also a useful resource to compare with parts of later model years when using the later FSM's. http://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsun/Z-1969-1978/body-240z/hood-lock-control Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/55298-hood-not-closing/#findComment-493015 Share on other sites

I didn't think of using later year FSM's, good idea!! I am talking about the actual cable clamp, that screws onto the frame so the outer cable does not move. I am not sure what tool I can use to bend that back to hold the actual cable in place. What's happening is, I pull on the hood lock handle, and it doesn't unlock the hood lock. The whole cable is being moved, instead of the inner silver cable that does the actual pulling. hatepotholez Posted April 19, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted April 19, 2016 I think what I can do is, slide a bolt over the cable bracket as it is not round anymore, hit it with the hammer a few times, get it round again then insert the cable and crimp it down. Here is a picture of what mine looks like and a cropped image from the parts manual. The outer lug on the end of the clamp is actually deformed to locate the end of the sheath and the lug that is in line with the screw is the one that clamps the sheath, I'm not sure how much it is crimped as you don't want to crush the sheath to much. Make sure the cable is clean and lubricated while you have it apart. hatepotholez Posted November 15, 2016 Author Share #7 Posted November 15, 2016 Just an update. Hood is closing, gaps are horrible. The front passenger end by the headlight is raised. I am not sure why this would happen. Could the hood hinges possibly have play in them? I didn't notice any when I installed it.
