I had a yellow '77 which I bought new at the dealer and I've never been able to figure out what it was since it had stripes, logos, left and right black racing mirrors, rear hatch louvers and a 5 speed gear box BUT it didn't look like a ZAP. Unfortunately I only have one old photograph (taken at the Snowy Owl Inn in New Hampshire in 1978 ) but you can see what I mean.

Conclusion: not all yellow "77 280Zs were ZAP.

From what I've read, the dealerships added the Zap package when they got the yellow cars.

If zhomes color gallery is correct then all yellow ones were special edition. I've seen one other yellow one owned by a member here, GrantF. Been some years since he's posted though.

Wait a minute... My 77 was originally yellow before my PO repainted it.

Are you guys saying that all yellow 77's were originally Zaps?

Does your Z still have the paint code sticker on the radiator support?  Is it #411?

And while I have you on the phone asking questions, where does all that water go at low tide?

From what I see the car has 75, 76 back bumpers, the front bumpers looks like 75, 76 also, it look like they have blunter rubber ends than the 77.  The color to me looks like the gold, the engine bay looks like it was repainted.  You can see paint on the brake lines on the fire wall and at the connection at the charcoal canister.

Door panels have been changed, shift knob is not stock and the radio is not stock.  Also has the fan cover, might have had AC at one time.  Has the air cleaner for a later model 76 where it pulls the air from the engine pay.  My 11/75 -76 280z does not have this.

Anyone remember that Datsun stripe package? New to me. Maybe an East coast dealer package. Now I'm curious where and when the Zap stripes were originally installed. Factory? Dealer? Different stripe package in different countries? Pinning down factual info on these cars is like herding cats.

I purchased that car new in '77 from Fred Schuler's Datsun in Wilkes-Barre, Pa for $7,995. I do remember at the time the salesman mentioning it was some sort of special package but I was not aware of the existence of the ZAP package back then. With the passage of time I simply assumed it was a "ZAPpish" 280Z, i.e. a fully accessorized yellow Z that the dealer took some "artistic" liberty with.

Now that's attention to details. 8^)

You're absolutely right on the engine bay repaint. I did not notice the brake lines were yellow.  Good catch!  Looks like a well done job except the things you've pointed out.

I don't think I have any stickers. I think my PO got rid of all of them, but I'll check.

I'll check on the water too...
