hr369 Posted October 3, 2016 Share #25 Posted October 3, 2016 All the other diodes have the diode symbol printed on the circuit board and the red band is the cathode side on them. Dave WM Posted October 3, 2016 Author Share #27 Posted October 3, 2016 (edited) Ok had to go back and re read up on this some. the anode is technically called the positive side hence the red tubing. I was thinking in power supply circuits where the Positive side of the power supply is the cathode since that is the flow of current. Anyway the band should go to the brown side from what I can see. Dave WM Posted October 3, 2016 Author Share #29 Posted October 3, 2016 this how I was thinking it note the cathode side is the positive output. Dave WM Posted October 3, 2016 Author Share #30 Posted October 3, 2016 and this is what makes it a bit confusing on the surface Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/56191-1977-oe-hitachi-radio-mounts/?page=3#findComment-504208 Share on other sites
Dave WM Posted October 3, 2016 Author Share #31 Posted October 3, 2016 (edited) So I "think" the red tubing was a way to denote anode, in case the brown marking was not enough to denote the cathode. hr369 Posted October 3, 2016 Share #32 Posted October 3, 2016 It's not a big problem if the diode is in backwards. The current just won't flow thru the circuit. I'm more concerned why these things burned up I'm thinking they put in ones that were too small. I'm thinking the gears got harder to turn over the years and the motor drew more current than they designed for that circuit. hr369 Posted October 3, 2016 Share #33 Posted October 3, 2016 I've got a 1n4001 and will pop it in this spot. Play smoke on the desk instead of the water Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/56191-1977-oe-hitachi-radio-mounts/?page=3#findComment-504213 Share on other sites
hr369 Posted October 3, 2016 Share #34 Posted October 3, 2016 ok, popped it in and NO smoke on the desk! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/56191-1977-oe-hitachi-radio-mounts/?page=3#findComment-504219 Share on other sites
Dave WM Posted October 3, 2016 Author Share #35 Posted October 3, 2016 no fire in the sky? I remember when that album came out, had a very high PAF (parent annoy factor). hr369 Posted October 5, 2016 Share #36 Posted October 5, 2016 So i thought i'de fixed the radio part of this player by reseating the 4 big transistors on the back but I was wrong. I must have jostled this resistor and it came back to life for a while but i lost the radio sound when i was putting the case back on. FRUSTRATING. So, an oldschool technique is to wiggle, prod, shake things until something happens. This is the result.
