Hi all, just wanted to let you know that I've done some work with our knowledge database, AKA: technical articles.  We currently have a forum for this kind of information, but, I've noticed that articles have a tendency to get lost in the shuffle of conversations.  To make things easier to find, our Knowledge Base has been updated with articles that we can keep in a central location.  You can find the link in our menu above (or click on the link in this message.

For those of you with knowledge to share, or if you know of a post that can be promoted to an article, please feel free to reply to this message or send me a PM with a link.  I'll be sure to add the information to the Knowledge Base permanently.  This should help others as they search for ways to improve or restore their own Z cars.

Thank you!

Mike

Promising idea, Mike, although it may be difficult to fully realize over the short term.  It's going to depend on the collective efforts of the members to nominate the threads that they think provided a cohesive treatment on one particular topic.  Not always obvious what should qualify (e.g. Would the current discussion of JAlex's vapour lock problem merit inclusion?).

Having read through just about all of the CZCC threads back in 2012 when I was starting my 70 resto project, I would suggest a search of all of the late eScanlon's posts as a good start for finding candidate articles to re-populate the Tech Articles reference area.  I thought he produced focused write-ups that were well thought out and well documented with a mix of text and pix.  There have been a few other contributors like that, too.

Another thought:  I think the Technical Articles section would benefit from either an index (I ended up making my own in 2012).  Alternatively, how about better categorizing of the threads by either tagging or creating new titles.  Broad categories might be:  Maintenance, Modification, Restoration, Materials, Tools & Equipment, Resources & References.

The section could also, IMO, benefit from a culling of some of the weaker and not-on-topic threads that have found their way in.

Thanks guys.  I can take any forum post and "promote" it to the knowledge base.  The caveat is the post should be a single post with all relevant information.  I can only promote one forum post at a time.  I also agree this should be a collaborative effort because we don't want to fill the knowledge base with random information.

Since we have a lot of information on this site, I will need help identifying the posts that we want to promote.  We already have a "tech articles" forum and I'll start looking at those posts.  It would help me a lot if you guys can find other posts and send them my direction.  You can either reply here, or you can send me a PM.  Thanks!

Blue's site or SteveJ's Fiddlin with Zcars

Agree.  Two more great contributors to the Z knowledge vault.

Patcon and Nix240 have made some great contributions on electroplating.  Ditto Grannyknot on MIG welding and rust repair.
