Where to buy a rebuilt 5 speed trans ?

Cool, I'll check with him on what he has. I assume the 81-83 zx transmission is the better one to get, right? With the lower 5th gear? I think they call that one the close ratio 5 speed, right?

Yeah, that's a great chart for comparison. I think that one will be best for me because I have a 411 rear differential, so it should drop my rpm's down close to 25% with that 5th gear.

Eiji at Datsun Spirit rebuilt my close ratio 5 speed. Used Nissan oem bearings,synchros and sent me pictures every step of the way. Great honest guy. True z enthusiast.

Nice. That's exactly what I'm looking for. I just want to know I'm buying one that had a quality rebuild and will hopefully last a long time. I love driving this car.

Sounds good, thanks...I'm completely OK going that route for sure.  I have dealt with Datsun Spirit for a few things when I was finishing the car so I will touch base with him again.

I have one, down here in the Portland area, that I could sell you if you can't find one.  I started collecting them for some reason and have three 5 speeds, and a 4 speed now, plus the 5 speed in my car.  

Shipping to the east coast is gong to get you though.  You might rephrase your question to local rebuilders, unless you want to ship.  Good luck.

And, whatever you do, avoid California Datsun.
