If I wanted to make some Fairlady Z Vinyl decals for people's cars and sell them here and there, what is the legality of that? I see aftermarket memorabilia everywhere and it doesn't seem like it is produced by Nissan. Is this illegal or just a shade of grey?

You're OK until Nissan finds out, which may never happen but don't bet on it, and then you will get a letter from their attorney that will scare the snot out of you.  I framed my letter from Porsche's legal team many years ago.  The basic rule is that if you're reproducing anything owned by someone else, you are doing something illegal.

Try asking Nissan for permission, you may be pleasantly surprised.  They own the intellectual rights to what you want to create and sell and if they think what you're doing will dilute their hold/control, they will tell you to stop.

FYI We requested permission to use the Datsun and Nissan logos on our car club hats, bags, shirts, etc. back in 2003. Nissan Canada kindly granted it to our club.

Nice people there!
