240260280 Posted May 12, 2017 Share #1 Posted May 12, 2017 Are there Z mirrors without the toggle switches like the one in the pictures, or are these from a different car? 1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/57710-z-mirror-with-no-daynight-toggle/ Share on other sites

HS30-H Posted May 12, 2017 Share #3 Posted May 12, 2017 96321-E4100 was the '69-up interior mirror for the S30-S Fairlady Z 'Std' model and the PS30-SB Fairlady Z432-R model, with no Day/Night adjustment. Many other Nissan models (especially in Japanese market) had similar style mirrors. What makes them Z specific is the curve of the stalk and the mounting. 1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/57710-z-mirror-with-no-daynight-toggle/#findComment-520771 Share on other sites
240260280 Posted May 12, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted May 12, 2017 (edited) Thanks Alan! Thanks Jim, I'll have a look at 510 mirrors my friends have. It could be one but this one seems to be more trapezoidal. kats Posted May 12, 2017 Share #5 Posted May 12, 2017 (edited) I bought this from the US as new in the box , kept it on a shelf a while, then sold it on Yahoo Japan a few years ago. Most of the Z432-R which I saw do not have this mirror, I think they just lost it at some point. It is a quite common story that people were trying to obtain this plain mirror (because of Z432-R) from the local Nissan sometime ago , they ended up receiving mirror with an ugly mounting stay. Bravely some people were trying to sell the not original mirror with listing "Z432-R mirror" , they were relying only the fact that they placed an order to Nissan with the collect part number. I do not know why parts catalog says this mirror is applied "automatic" . JLPurcell Posted May 12, 2017 Share #6 Posted May 12, 2017 I had one of these off of an early production car. I don't know if I sold it or if it is still in my parts stash. I will have to take a look this weekend. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/57710-z-mirror-with-no-daynight-toggle/#findComment-520782 Share on other sites

Like many road-going 432-R users, they probably found that it was a nuisance when night driving. In just the same way, quite a few road-driven 432-Rs ended up with gloveboxes, heat/demist controls and centre consoles etc within a few years of being sold. 1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/57710-z-mirror-with-no-daynight-toggle/#findComment-520785 Share on other sites
jerz Posted May 12, 2017 Share #8 Posted May 12, 2017 The rear view mirror on my 1977 UK 260Z does not have a day/night toggle lever. The owner's manual suggests that this non-toggle type of mirror is fitted with anti-glare glass. 2 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/57710-z-mirror-with-no-daynight-toggle/#findComment-520801 Share on other sites
240260280 Posted May 12, 2017 Author Share #9 Posted May 12, 2017 (edited) The mirror w/o the glare-proof toggle seems to appear in some of the early 432R racers in Japan in spring of 1970. They seem wider at the top too which is like the one in the first post. That crusty grey plastic also seems to agree with the photo below and with other early parts like the ashtray and heater panel. 1970 09 05 Fuji International Golden Race 1970 07 25 All Japan Fuji 1000km Edited May 12, 2017 by 240260280 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/57710-z-mirror-with-no-daynight-toggle/#findComment-520803 Share on other sites
Captain Obvious Posted May 12, 2017 Share #10 Posted May 12, 2017 "They seem wider at the top too which is like the one in the first post." It's a spherical mount. Turn it 180 degrees and it'll be wider at the bottom? 240260280 Posted May 12, 2017 Author Share #11 Posted May 12, 2017 (edited) I think you are correct. Maybe the racers put them higher for better forward visibility: "It don't matter who's behind you, only who's in front of you." Captain Obvious Posted May 12, 2017 Share #12 Posted May 12, 2017 That's probably the case. I modified a couple different rear view mirrors from other cars to fit my Z, and it takes a bit to get used to it. I wish they were all closer to the roof.
