Johnny wick Posted July 11, 2017 Share #25 Posted July 11, 2017 I was thinking if i should leave the dorman clear glass fuel filter or install a malpassi king fuel filter regulator as this one so i can dial down the fuel pressure to 4 psi. The problem is sourcing the filters in europe. What do you think? Mark Maras Posted July 12, 2017 Share #26 Posted July 12, 2017 No opinion on the filters. I thought you were going to cut the pressure back to 3.5 psi. 4 psi is still on the high side. Johnny wick Posted July 13, 2017 Share #27 Posted July 13, 2017 (edited) Okay i managed to lower the psi as shown doing this trick. I am not fund of installing fuel pressure regulators in the system. I guess there should be no danger with this. What do you think Mark? w3wilkes Posted August 16, 2017 Share #28 Posted August 16, 2017 A dumb question... All through this thread I see it stated that 4 PSI is pushing it for a standard carbureted 240Z. Why is MSA selling this http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/classic17a09/11-3078 as a good replacement for the mechanical fuel pump? This pump is rated at 4 - 7 PSI self regulating. MSA says nothing about needing to regulate this pump or am I missing something?? JSM Posted August 16, 2017 Author Share #29 Posted August 16, 2017 Get rid of that filter - they are junk. The filter assembly inside comes loose and blocks fuel flow. You won't suspect it because you'll see fuel in the filter . Take it off and see if it is coming apart insideI ditched it after all. I only applied a small amount of force trying to Remove it and it came completely apart. It's really hard to beat the fram g2 less than $3.Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/58083-those-running-clear-dorman-filters-to-their-sus/?page=3#findComment-528048 Share on other sites

Some Z owners have used the early Mazda RX7 electric pumps. It reportedly is quite good, inexpensive and much quieter than most. JSM Posted August 16, 2017 Author Share #31 Posted August 16, 2017 I think the reality is if you have a good functioning return line to the tank and good float valves you won't have any issues. Watching the return straight off the carb return line and at the back of the car, mine only had a nice small trickle using the Airtex E8016S 4.5PSI max, 30GPH pump.
