why must a user submit their full address to log in?
if I can't remove my address from your database, I'll have to remove my account.

currently, it's seen as a requirement- and it's showing up on the user profile page.

(also, the swirly effect on all the images is ugly as sin).

  • well if we're going there, it's more like shrooms about 20 minutes before they reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally reel ya in. ever been camping and just stare at a large boulder for about 20 minutes right before

  • What is really needed on this web site is an OVER reacted button.

  • The swirly effect will fool some into thinking they are having a LSD flashback. Like escaping from a deep space black hole in a Z car! Swirly stuff so cool! Like far out, Mike!!!

I just updated the website today and didn't know this was a new requirement.  Can you send me a screenshot of what you don't like?

Also, there's nothing that says you can't make up an address in your city.  123 4th Street for instance...    At least give the state you live in so our member map updates.

@Careless, I have some good news.  The address field, although private, is changed.  The field has always been a hidden private field, but the update made it mandatory.  I updated the settings and made it non-mandatory.  Although your address is an option, it's not required to be a member.  Anyway, we do have an additional field for the member map.  Good news is that you can simply include your City, State (or just State) and it will show the location based on this general info.

Can you tell me a bit about the swirly effect on the image?   I don't know what that is..   Thanks.

Mike

Thanks for changing the address requirements.

regarding the swirly effect I was referring to:

the regular photos look way better.

edit: address still isn't changed, so I guess the user map is going to be all fabricated info which effectively makes it useless for ya.

Mike....I'm with Careless.....why do we constantly have to change the website? Every time I get comfortable with the site, we change it. Why? I think it was the absolute best 4 changes ago........

Wait, what?  You don't like the Vincent van Gogh look?:P

Hi @Careless, the images were created by me.  I designed them using a series of filters from Photoshop.  I'll work on something different but this will go on the back burner so I can resolve some other issues.

As far as the address, it looks like we have two entries.  One of them is for your address in our file (shown in your screenshot above).  I found out that it's mandatory during profile edits because we also sell products and this is required to have the store module.  I removed it from the list of requirements to get back into the site, but, it looks like the field is there if you want to edit that section of your profile.  The second field is called "Member Map Location" and is the generic one we use on the member map.  The specific address field is private and never shared in your profile (hence, is why we have it as a hidden field).  It's used only for products.  The second one will show up in the member map to MEMBERS ONLY, not public.  You can specify the member map any way you want, but I encourage you to put your City, State.  If you don't like it, you can use your State only.  I use this field for the member map so we can see how many people we have marked on the map under the members area.  It's fun to see how many people we have spread across the globe.  Lastly, if you don't plan on buying any products from the site or want to be on the member map, feel free to use any address you would like.

Hmm...  I was hoping you guys would like the new features.  If I never changed then we would still be stuck on an old platform with massive security holes.  Believe me, I always think about this before doing any major update because it takes me HOURS to go through and work out the kinks.  New features helps me on the back end and gives us even better features.  We will get through it... ;)

You're right Mike.  I always disliked the change overs at first but always adjusted and grew to like them even better.

I understand the frustration from the members, we do live for 40 plus year old "classics" but I don't want to be too set in my ways. Change is good, sometimes, it keeps the Alzheimers away. :)

i guess im in with the dislike change crowd. it is your website, and you can do with it as you please, just my opinion. 1 other question. what is the "reacted" thing? is that the new politically correct way of avoiding like or dislike, possibly hurting someones last feeling?

Thanks sweatybetty, I know change isn't always accepted.  But, as Heraclitus said, "There's nothing more constant than change.."  From a system admin side, I have to keep changing to keep up.  There are things you guys just don't see in the background that require it -- hacking attempts, scammers, spammers, virus, etc..  On the front side we have to adapt to new ideas and technologies.  Otherwise we'd still be running a frames-only website based solely on HTML. :)

The reactions are the same, you have a like button.  There are new icons for emotions that we've always had in the past.  Only now you don't have to reply to react.

I suspect the "reacted" thing is now that since there is more than just one way to "react" to a post, they aren't all just "likes" anymore.

The question is: The software is certainly smart enough to fit the exact reaction into the notification message if they wanted to. But no... You have to actually call up that post and find the reaction to get the details. Why can't it still send a notification that says what exactly happened? Liked, sad, etc.

We have the option of going back to the basic "like" button, but, I kind of like the new look.  Let's try it for a bit and see how people like it?  As far as notifications, it should be sending you a notification when someone reacts to your post.
