Mikes280Z Posted August 27, 2017 Share #1 Posted August 27, 2017 I have Sumitomo calipers on my 280 and they need replacing. The auto parts guys are drawing a blank. Where else can I get a set? Other than Japan for 200 bucks. I tried 79 Toyota 4x4 but too short. These MK63s have those weird 'ears' sticking out the sides. Zed Head Posted August 28, 2017 Share #2 Posted August 28, 2017 This link might be helpful as a start, you can dig up the catalog with the dimensions. I've seen where people have drilled their own hanger holes, can't remember why. I think it was a similar situation to yours. Long as they're hanging in the right spot and the contact points between pad and caliper meet, you can probably make something work. https://www.bendix.com.au/sites/default/files/news-uploads/measuring_a_brake_pad_technical_bulletin.pdf Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/58397-sumitomo-mk63-pads/#findComment-528980 Share on other sites
Patcon Posted August 28, 2017 Share #3 Posted August 28, 2017 @JLPurcell Might be able to make some recommendations. I believe he has a similar setup Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/58397-sumitomo-mk63-pads/#findComment-528984 Share on other sites
JLPurcell Posted August 28, 2017 Share #4 Posted August 28, 2017 Looking for calipers or brake pads for the MK63's? I have an extra set that I believe that I will hold on to, but they are out there. There are two different configurations, I believe that there is a difference in the pads for the MK63 calipers for the vented rotors as apposed to the pads for the non-vented MK63 calipers. Kats would be my go to guy for information on these calipers and pads. I know there are companies out there that will replace the brake material on your backing plates as an alternative. http://www.remaninc.com/aboutbrakepads https://jdm-car-parts.com/collections/skyline-1969-72/products/reproduction-mk63-front-brake-pad-set-for-skyline-hakosuka https://global.rakuten.com/en/store/parts/item/aa71-f8f010-2/ https://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/j448607503 https://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/j448607499 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/58397-sumitomo-mk63-pads/#findComment-528987 Share on other sites

Mikes280Z Posted August 28, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted August 28, 2017 I had a look at those links and the Japanese bid site has the right pads for $90. Not a bad price, I guess. I still don't know who Kat is. HS30-H Posted August 28, 2017 Share #8 Posted August 28, 2017 Personally I'd go for The Real Thing when it comes to brake parts, and fit genuine Sumitomo MK63 pads. However, there's an OEM Ford fitment that uses a similarly shaped pad to the solid rotor MK63, and they will work with a little modification. I don't know what your local market part number will be, but there's a Ferodo-branded DS2500 compound reference part number of FCP167H. Maybe you can cross-reference? 1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/58397-sumitomo-mk63-pads/#findComment-529005 Share on other sites

Mikes280Z Posted August 28, 2017 Author Share #10 Posted August 28, 2017 I'd like to fit the real pads too. I just can't believe how hard they are to find in North America. Somebody must have em somewhere. Mikes280Z Posted August 28, 2017 Author Share #11 Posted August 28, 2017 I can probably get these ones relined with new friction material cheaper than Japanese ones and have em back right away. I just thought how hard could it be. They're just pads. Not realizing how rare they are.
