Dan Hansen Posted August 29, 2017 Share #1 Posted August 29, 2017 Hey Guys Just got my first Z (240Z 1971) a very nice car, and after just 15 miles, I´m sold... I discovered that my headlight and gauge light are following the revs of the motor? Alternator issues or? siteunseen Posted August 29, 2017 Share #2 Posted August 29, 2017 I'd tighten the belt first, then put a voltmeter on the battery leads. Should put out 13.5 volts or better while idling. Congratulations on your purchase. let's see some pictures. 1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/58415-accelerator-vs-headlight/#findComment-529134 Share on other sites

siteunseen Posted August 30, 2017 Share #6 Posted August 30, 2017 This is a highly recommended headlight upgrade for the 240. I'm not much of a night driver so I can't say how much brighter but everything I've read has been positive, much brighter. This rewires the headlights to pull straight off the battery. JSM Posted August 30, 2017 Share #7 Posted August 30, 2017 Other option is from Dave. I think he was the supplier to MSA. I could be wrong. https://www.datsun-240z-upgrades.net/product-info/ i just ordered it myself. I rebuilt my headlight switch, but I just don't care for the heat I'm getting in my fuse box. I think I'm going to do the parking light upgrade next. Dan Hansen Posted August 30, 2017 Author Share #10 Posted August 30, 2017 It´s the same problem on early Porsche´s, so a relay like that seems like a good investment, Thank you guys...:-) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/58415-accelerator-vs-headlight/#findComment-529225 Share on other sites
siteunseen Posted August 30, 2017 Share #11 Posted August 30, 2017 Thank you! Let us know how easy it is, that's all I've read. Really simple plug and play type. jfa.series1 Posted August 30, 2017 Share #12 Posted August 30, 2017 That is an amazing looking car! Congratulations on a great find. You have exquisite taste in color (no bias toward Safari Gold here, none whatsoever )! I'll add to the recommendations on the relay upgrades for the headlights and turn signals / parking lights. Those changes will take a huge load off the fuse box and switches. Also consider upgrading the flasher cans for the turn signals and hazard lights to newer electronic models. The turn signal can is on the steering column, the hazard can is on the right side kick panel.
