Harper Posted December 13, 2017 Share #1 Posted December 13, 2017 Hello....New to the site, hope this right page to ask the experts. So....I picked up a winter project. 1972 240z, that has been sitting for 35 years, a "barn find". I have had a few in my day and have been looking for a survivor. The car is all original matching numbers and mostly complete and 98% rust free. But it is ugly, a diamond in the rough. Anyhow.... This car has a "factory"? electric sliding moon roof, ( no glass-metal). I have never seen this before! I know you think I am an idiot all ready, I am serious this car has one and it sure looks factory to me. I don't think a dealer could have done this. it looks to good. IS THIS POSSIBLE??? I know you will want pictures, let me get my bearings on the site and I will post. The top is easy to photo, but I will need to take out the headliner to see the motor and slide rail. This will take me some time, I am trying to save what I can. Any thoughts?.....Harper Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/59154-is-it-possible/ Share on other sites
Patcon Posted December 13, 2017 Share #2 Posted December 13, 2017 I am 99.99% no factory sunroof. Someone must have done a nice professional addition to the car... wheee! Posted December 13, 2017 Share #3 Posted December 13, 2017 Power sliding sunroof in 72? I don’t think so... In a 240Z? Definitely not. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/59154-is-it-possible/#findComment-537328 Share on other sites
Harper Posted December 13, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted December 13, 2017 It is not a sun roof, solid metal can't see through it. I will take pictures tomorrow. Ok is there anyone out there that has this? It is formed to roof line, drops down and slides back. psdenno Posted December 13, 2017 Share #5 Posted December 13, 2017 Let me add my "No" vote. Any markings indicating manufacturer of the sun roof? Dennis Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/59154-is-it-possible/#findComment-537330 Share on other sites
Harper Posted December 13, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted December 13, 2017 Not that I can see yet, it's under the headliner. The opening is covered in same material and slides under headliner. If this was not factory the guy that did this was brilliant! Dealer? I would think there would be more out there. lonetreesteve Posted December 13, 2017 Share #8 Posted December 13, 2017 About 10 or 11 years ago there was a member of the Z-Car Club of Colorado at a "shine 'n show" that had a 240Z with a similar sunroof. He told us that it was professionally installed by a company in California back in the '70's. rturbo 930 Posted December 13, 2017 Share #9 Posted December 13, 2017 I think I saw a post on here, or on HybridZ, from someone removing a sunroof very much like that. Looked very factory. But as far as I know, Zs simply were not available with a sunroof. 1 hour ago, Harper said: It is not a sun roof, solid metal can't see through it. 2 hours ago, Harper said: electric sliding moon roof, ( no glass-metal). I think you've got your terms backwards here. That's a sunroof. A moon roof is typically tinted glass like you see on a lot of newer cars. 1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/59154-is-it-possible/#findComment-537335 Share on other sites
NVZEE2 Posted December 13, 2017 Share #10 Posted December 13, 2017 (edited) Dare I say it, they pop up occasionally. Lots of aftermarket support over the years ... gwri8 Posted December 13, 2017 Share #11 Posted December 13, 2017 Sunroof, Moonroof, Hole over your head, whatever, is relative to the time of day it's in use. Was not a factory option. However it does look much better than the aftermarket hack jobs that were common in that time period. The Question is, Does it Leak? wheee! Posted December 13, 2017 Share #12 Posted December 13, 2017 Sunroof= opens to the air/sun for daytime fun. Moonroof=glass partition to atmosphere/night sky without opening abilityT-roof= transition roof, transitions from sunroof to moonroof with installation of glass panels. Hole over your head= redneck attempt at a sunroof.... 1 1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/59154-is-it-possible/#findComment-537340 Share on other sites
