Jaymanbikes Posted December 24, 2018 Author Share #25 Posted December 24, 2018 Next up repair a few small bad spots on the hatch and blend the paint. Unfortunately the car was obviously resprayed at some point and time with the glass in it. I will then and completely prep and respray the jamb. All new gaskets and reassemble. Jaymanbikes Posted December 29, 2018 Author Share #26 Posted December 29, 2018 Door panels now complete, they are not in perfect shape but will do for now. The passenger panel was originally a black panel. I sprayed the panel and then used a foil tape to recover the stripe. Prior to installation I lined the doors with dyna mat and installed new vapor barrier. Water sanded and buffed the door and installed new mirrors. Now on to refinishing the hatch. 2 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/60813-restoration-of-my-72-240z/?page=3#findComment-564787 Share on other sites
Jaymanbikes Posted January 13, 2019 Author Share #27 Posted January 13, 2019 One step forward two steps back. I have decided that I am going to respray the entire car sans the engine compartment, airdam and a few other bits. I just cannot get a color blend that looks acceptable. Car needs it anyway. What’s needed is one that’s slightly larger than the one on the panel and has a groove so that it could be placed over the existing strip. The existing strip is part of the vinyl door panel cover so it can’t be removed. You can sort of skim it off with a sharp knife but you don want to cut to fat, the vinyl will split then it’s junk.. 1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/60813-restoration-of-my-72-240z/?page=3#findComment-565914 Share on other sites

I used that on one door but again you have to remove what you have so that you have a place to apply this strip. My other door I used the foil tape and I like it much better. Thanks for the link though. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/60813-restoration-of-my-72-240z/?page=3#findComment-565935 Share on other sites

Jaymanbikes Posted February 24, 2019 Author Share #33 Posted February 24, 2019 Found a fellow who works from his home near me and is going to do my pain5 and body. Here is how I sent it to him. Jaymanbikes Posted February 24, 2019 Author Share #34 Posted February 24, 2019 So here we are after just one week, the car is being stripped to bare metal and the old bondo will be removed. I think his wheel chocks are clever, they allow him to have complete access and easily maneuver the car around his shop. 3 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/60813-restoration-of-my-72-240z/?page=3#findComment-569231 Share on other sites
ollie Posted February 24, 2019 Share #35 Posted February 24, 2019 Awesome thread! Your car will be terrific when it's back for sure. Just make sure to extend those damn cowl drains to the exit point on the front fender/ rocker. Jaymanbikes Posted February 24, 2019 Author Share #36 Posted February 24, 2019 Parts stripped completely. Will be having two set of headlight buckets painted, one set will have the head light lenses, one set will not. The car had been in a front fender bender I’m guessing because one of the buckets is FRP and the other is metal. 3 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/60813-restoration-of-my-72-240z/?page=3#findComment-569287 Share on other sites
