Tirnipgreen Posted October 8, 2018 Share #1 Posted October 8, 2018 Hello out there... I am re-installing my front suspension after a long floor pan (and lots of other rusted metal) replacement. Should I use STAINLESS nuts, bots, washers for any and all areas where needed...? I love stainless, but not sure if Grade 8 would be a requirement for suspension components. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks...Ryals Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/60892-suspension-hardware/ Share on other sites
grannyknot Posted October 8, 2018 Share #2 Posted October 8, 2018 You definitely shouldn't be replacing grade 8 with SS and yes there are grade 8 bolts in the suspension system. SS although quite hard is not very strong, it looks pretty but it reacts with other metals just as easily as zinc covered bolts. zKars Posted October 9, 2018 Share #3 Posted October 9, 2018 The suspension bolts are mostly JIS grade 9, which is equivalent to SAE grade 12. Leave the pretty stainless to where you can see it under the hood holding on the fenders, valve cover or rad or something, or in the interior. 1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/60892-suspension-hardware/#findComment-559211 Share on other sites
