Tourniqet Posted May 15, 2003 Share #1 Posted May 15, 2003 I just got my first z. It is a 1973 240z that I bought from a guy 100 miles out of dallas for 1800$ I am no mechanic and dont know much about these cars but I really want to learn. The car has 91k original miles repainted white beige a couple years ago(okay paint) and only has a rust spot the size of a dime on the bottom left part of the rear window next to rubber. It was broken into a few months before he sold it and they broke steering columb and one door lock. I just need to know some resources I need to start fixin this baby up. Seller told me a new tire would get rid of the vibration that comes on at about 60mph, did that and still vibrates. The car pulls to the right like the alignment is out of whack, and the inside of the front left tire is worn. I dont know what the hell it is but i have not gotten it aligned yet. Could this be the suspension, camber. I dont know anyway to many little questions I guess I just need some advise on where to find the information to start fixing this car. The car has some odds and ins but I already love it and cant wait to get it driving rightThanks alot,Allen Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/6160-just-bought-a-z-now-what/ Share on other sites
Bambikiller240 Posted May 15, 2003 Share #2 Posted May 15, 2003 Unless the car has been modified, the camber is NOT adjustable, but wear on the inside part of tire tread "could" be a camber issue. As in bent/damaged suspension. Your best bet is to take the car to an alignment shop with a computerized rack that will provide you with a printout of the settings found on the car when it came into the shop, and the settings after the alignment was performed. You deserve to get some compensation out of the parts. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/6160-just-bought-a-z-now-what/#findComment-37506 Share on other sites
Gav240z Posted May 15, 2003 Share #5 Posted May 15, 2003 Damn right dude, I know you just wrote off your car but those spares could be invaluble to you later if you get another Z. I learnt the hard way I parted out a car and wished I'd taken all the small things later that now I can't even get at a wrecker. Like that damn license plate light surrounding damn kicking myself :stupid: . Not trying to take anything away from Tourniqet just passing on wisdom learnt the hard way . It's just a suggestion. thefastestz Posted May 15, 2003 Share #6 Posted May 15, 2003 Well I now have a 78 280z.It is very complete. However, most of the parts are not transferable any way.Your right, maybe I should just sell the parts I know I will never use.The parts are from a 73, so there are many parts that i cannot use that i amsure other people can. Thanks guys for your opinions,I guess I'll remove some parts and make a thread and sell them there.Any one need a 73 240z part?I got it.Since my parts are not show parts, I will let them go for cheap. I'll post pics too.Have a daily driver that needs help? Ok, I admit, that was completely uncalled for. You should, however, get some money out of the parts. I'm not saying you should rip people off but anyone who needs anything is more than happy to pay a little bit for it. If members here can help one another out by exhanging parts or providing good deals then that's great.
