davis23 Posted April 18, 2019 Share #1 Posted April 18, 2019 Hi, I try to find good Datsun 240z or 280z on car auctions. I searched everywhere and so far these auctions have Datsuns for sale: https://abetter.bid/en/car-finder/make-datsun https://sca.auction/en/search/make-datsun https://www.easyexport.us/en/car-finder/make-datsun/ http://www.carfrom.us/?carmake=datsun Let me know where I should also look. By the way here are two cars I want to buy: https://abetter.bid/en/31720579-1972-datsun-240z https://abetter.bid/en/32148619-1978-datsun-280z What do you think guys? Mark Maras Posted April 18, 2019 Share #2 Posted April 18, 2019 You're fortunate to live near the left coast. There were a lot a Zs sold here and quite a few a still around. The biggest concern being rust, I'd try to find one that spent its years west of the Rockies and east of the Cascades and Sierra Nevadas. The farther south, the better. I'd also consider one with an automatic trans a major score, only because I think A.T. Zs were treated better than their M.T. cousins. I'd immediately put a 5 speed in it tho. Good luck. Mike Posted April 18, 2019 Share #3 Posted April 18, 2019 Biggest question is how much is your budget? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/62013-any-good-places-or-auctions-to-find-240z-or-280z/#findComment-573552 Share on other sites

Second is do you want to work on one or buy a turn key car. 280s are fuel injected, 240s are carbureted. A fuel injected car as old as ours would need some new parts but the carburated ones just need a good rebuilding of the carbs. No ECU, coolant temp sensor tweak etc. and the carbs are more compatible with a performance cam than an EFI car. My $.02. 1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/62013-any-good-places-or-auctions-to-find-240z-or-280z/#findComment-573570 Share on other sites
Zed Head Posted April 18, 2019 Share #5 Posted April 18, 2019 Those two cars are very very different. I'd assume you'll make the second one look like the first one? The first one seems to have title problems. Bring-a-Trailer is popular. https://bringatrailer.com/ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/62013-any-good-places-or-auctions-to-find-240z-or-280z/#findComment-573572 Share on other sites
Mike Posted April 18, 2019 Share #6 Posted April 18, 2019 I'd stay away from the first one (unless you want something completely modified like that). Best value is to get one more like the 2nd car and do some work to get it going again. Carl collected some great articles on his web page about what to look for in a Z during your purchase. http://zhome.com/ Look for the menu item on the left side "Buying a Z Car Tips" Keep an eye on Craigslist, this site (in our classifieds area) and Bring A Trailer as Zed mentioned above. Captain Obvious Posted April 20, 2019 Share #7 Posted April 20, 2019 Actually I don't like all the links in the OP's post. Links to a whole bunch of auction sites and pics nabbed from copart. Just joined. One and only one post. And hasn't even responded to all the input from other members about his original post. I'd like the OP to participate in the discussion he started and convince us that he isn't a spammer or a bot. 1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/62013-any-good-places-or-auctions-to-find-240z-or-280z/#findComment-573746 Share on other sites
718Miata Posted April 20, 2019 Share #8 Posted April 20, 2019 I posted mine because Mecum is a good place to swipe Japanese cars. I think the people there are primarily interested in American cars. I paid $13,750 for that car two weeks ago. I’m not an expert in these cars, but I think I stole it. 3 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/62013-any-good-places-or-auctions-to-find-240z-or-280z/#findComment-573759 Share on other sites
siteunseen Posted April 20, 2019 Share #9 Posted April 20, 2019 (edited) Yes, you stole it! That's a good deal looking at the pictures. I have that in mine plus a years worth of hard work mostly laying on my garage floor. 718Miata Posted April 20, 2019 Share #10 Posted April 20, 2019 I wasn’t even intending to buy a 240z. I was on the auction floor because my buddy wanted to look at the car before it. When I saw the Z I was blown away and thought, if I can get this cheap enough, I’ll buy it. I was shocked when the reserve was met and the hammer fell at $12,500. grannyknot Posted April 20, 2019 Share #11 Posted April 20, 2019 You thief! Well played, the only thing better than buying a Z in great shape is getting it for a bargain, you could probably double your money by listing it on BaT. I’ll see how I feel about the car once I’ve driven it a bit. The title is supposed to come on Monday and then I’ll register it, so it’ll be able to enjoy it then.
