Loud noise coming from rear brakes on my 240z

Recommended Posts

I have been noticing there is a loud noise produced whenever i step on the brakes once i crank the engine and start driving out from the garage. The noise comes from the rear brakes. How do i get rid of this noise? Will i need to open the drum brakes and sand any parts?

Any brake drum kit you would recommend?  Or should i only order the shoes?

Pull the drum on the side making the noise and look for scoring/rub wear marks on the inside of the drum.  At that time, also look to see how much material is left on the brake shoes.  Based on what you see, you MAY need to order shoes and have the drum"turned" which will resurface the inside of the drum.  Any shop that does brakes should be able to do the job - not a major event.

How far will your emergency brake lever come up? If it stands up to 12 o'clock your shoes are usually worn out. New shoes will go to about 10 o'clock in my experience with these cars. For what that's worth! LOL
