Clay C Posted March 10, 2020 Share #1 Posted March 10, 2020 Does anyone who knows more than me (which would be most) see anything wrong with this? https://www.ebay.com/itm/240z-oil-cam-spray-bar/283790259940?hash=item421337b6e4:g:0ccAAOSwcABeA7Cz My original is a little bent as I have seen in older posts. I could fix it I guess but would go this route in a heartbeat. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/63679-new-oil-cam-spray-tube/ Share on other sites
heyitsrama Posted March 10, 2020 Share #2 Posted March 10, 2020 the only thing i can think of is if the internal diameter of the tube is too large it might loose pressure (not sure how important is it for the cam to have pressure).. other than that it looks nice to make it out of 1 section of tube, less stuff to fail. Zed Head Posted March 10, 2020 Share #3 Posted March 10, 2020 The size of the outlet holes would determine pressure. Can't tell if they're too big or not. Not really much data to tell if it will work correctly. The cork gasket seems too thick and not right for the application. Good concept, functionality unknown. Send the guy a message and see if he has some more info. Even a video or picture of the bar squirting oil. 1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/63679-new-oil-cam-spray-tube/#findComment-594063 Share on other sites
Diseazd Posted March 10, 2020 Share #4 Posted March 10, 2020 Wow.....what a great idea.....no idea why it wouldn’t work! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/63679-new-oil-cam-spray-tube/#findComment-594064 Share on other sites
Clay C Posted March 11, 2020 Author Share #5 Posted March 11, 2020 I think I’ll pull the trigger on it. I’ll let everyone know later if it all goes south! 1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/63679-new-oil-cam-spray-tube/#findComment-594065 Share on other sites
zKars Posted March 11, 2020 Share #6 Posted March 11, 2020 Nice and simple. As long as the oil streams all aim at the right place, it’s all good. If “I” were advertising such a thing, I would be posting video’s of the spray patterns at 10 psi (Idle) and 60 psi (operating) to give such a critical piece some semblance of trustworthiness. Captain Obvious Posted March 11, 2020 Share #7 Posted March 11, 2020 Looks like someone didn't want to spring for cost of the aluminum extrusion that the other guy uses to make these. Has the same "issue" though. The holes are further from the cam than the stock bar. Might matter, might not. Probably depends on how healthy your oil pressure is. Patcon Posted March 11, 2020 Share #8 Posted March 11, 2020 I wonder if differential expansion would be a problem. Aluminum tube makes more sense Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/63679-new-oil-cam-spray-tube/#findComment-594101 Share on other sites
Captain Obvious Posted March 11, 2020 Share #9 Posted March 11, 2020 It is my belief that differential expansion is what caused the failures of a lot of the original bars. This one would suffer the same stresses, but since it's one piece, I suspect it'll just squirm on the mounting holes and survive. If anything, it'll just leak some at the joints between the gasket and the cam towers. One would hope that even if it seeps a little at those joints, the path of least resistance would still encourage the majority of the oil to make it all the way to the holes. I haven't tested any of this, but that's my read. Haha! Zed Head Posted March 11, 2020 Share #10 Posted March 11, 2020 Looks like the guy only had one? Maybe it blew up his engine and he wanted to make a few dollars. 1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/63679-new-oil-cam-spray-tube/#findComment-594120 Share on other sites
Zed Head Posted March 11, 2020 Share #11 Posted March 11, 2020 The seller is not a parts maker. He's just selling Z stuff. That bar is probably a one-off. https://www.ebay.com/usr/metalmilitia767?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/63679-new-oil-cam-spray-tube/#findComment-594121 Share on other sites
Dave WM Posted March 11, 2020 Share #12 Posted March 11, 2020 I don't like that cork, looks like it could chip off, small piece gets in there and fouls one of the holes. I just used some oil resistant gasket maker, like rubberized paper.
