If you search his name you'll find that he should know these things.  He's supposed to be a car "aficionado".  He has a business selling classic cars.  Not really a "poor seller".

The guy might not realize that the pad has been messed with.  His response to the comments on BAT will tell something.  Somebody in CA did something before he bought it.  Might still be a fine 240Z, just not "numbers-matching".

Here's a couple other '73's for reference.  Notice the difference in the shape of the "1"?

Definitely was doctored. That's too bad. Fyi, Here's my 1973 numbers plate from a couple of different angles.

Could the L24 have been stamped at a different time and place other than where the second block of numbers, were stamped when the finished motor was being installed, they might have had a different set of numbers.

I see what your saying, also the numbers are not lined up, straight across the bottom like an original is.  I'm sure datsun workers would have used a stamp set that held all the numbers at once and was struck once to get a clean look.

You're probably right, looks like a nice Z other than the doctored block numbers and 9-10 yrs ago almost no one would have cared.
