Just thought this was funny.  Earlier in this thread I quoted somebody's post and could not delete the ads so they ended up somehow as giant invisible spaces in the post.  Just now I posted and every space has an ad inserted.  Barely readable.

You have a poltergeist in your PC.

"prices have never been better" that's funny as it appears in a new Corvette ad.

I also get the adverts between the messages.. (i can live with that) BUT a big annoying one in the bottom of the screen.. that last one is VERY annoying! i can click it away.. i have to because it blocks content as you also showed.. very disobliging.

Although.. there is hope because today i now suddenly don't see them anymore! thats a first since many month's!

Here's a thought I had - why don't Motorsport Auto and ZCarDepot make some sizable donations to keep the site going and Mike's bank account healthy?  This site probably drives more business to those guys than any other, and is keeping more Z's alive.  Each Z is a revenue stream for those companies.  The ads that Mike has to run to stay solvent just make working on the Z (revenue generator) more difficult/painful.

I recently noticed while browsing the forum on my phone the ads at the top and bottom, and inline in thread posts, suddenly began appearing, and are persistent. Most often they are blank, but occasionally there is content. With the banner ads at the top and bottom, there is a tiny X that can be touched to send them away, but even my scrawny fingers usually miss, and the ad opens in another tab.

Very frustrating.

The ads are a huge impediment to viewing the threads, as they cover most of the tiny screen.

And I must mention that this troublesome ad behavior has only recently started. The ad blocker on my phone used to keep them away.

Also, I never see ads while browsing the forum on my desktop or laptop.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi guys...  oh yes I've definitely explored multiple fund-raising options, in addition to the current sponsors that we have on the site.  But alas, the annoying Adsense ads are a necessary evil to help us supplement the current arrangements we have in place.  Just to let you know, we stay afloat with via the following deals I've set up:

  1. Direct sponsors (~40-50%)
  2. Adsense & keyword advertising (~40%)
  3. Member subscriptions (~10-20%)

These are rough percentages, but you can see how supplimenting with Adsense is necessary for us to stay online.  I've seen websites that generate most of their income with all forms of advertising and, believe me, this site is minor by comparison (Reference = https://forum.ih8mud.com/).  I've also considered how we could improve things if everyone became a subscribing member (option 3), but, that hasn't been a big seller.  I even set it up so subscribing members will not see the Adsense ads.  So right now, to offset our costs free members will always see more ads.  If you are looking for less ads, I highly recommend subscribing.  You also get a cool RED font next to your username with stars next to it.  😉

Direct sponsors aren't sponsoring enough.  @zcardepot.com @James@TheZStore @Joseph@TheZStore

This is the best site for learning where to spend your money to keep your Z on the road.  The direct sponsors make plenty of money indirectly from this site.

My original point about the ads, first post, was that Mike spends lots of time working on the format of the site then the ads drop in to people's posts and ruin it.  Having ads on the margins, where they can be seen is one thing, but having them dump in the middle of a member's composition is ridiculous.  And having to keep your device muted just in case an autoplay audible ad starts playing actually drives people away, like the ugly ear wax ads.  There is a point where the ads actually reduce revenue.

Thanks for the compliments and intentions to help, Zed Head.  We have plenty of support from our current sponsors.  Appreciate the thought but tagging them in this thread isn't the best way to help.

Also don't forget the money I've invested into server hardware.  We just went through a server refresh earlier this year....  oh that was a shocker to the wallet.  🙂    What kind of ideas do you have to help us pay the bills that doesn't involve ads?

IMHO, I've gone through this several times in my own head, believe me.  The only real way to replace the ad revenue is either more sponsors or more subscriptions.  I've already removed 90% of the ads for members who subscribe.  I even lowered the monthly cost to $5.  Perhaps an annual subscription/membership fee?  I've seen real world clubs do that and it seems to work fine.
