Hi all,

I appreciate your patience as I ran through a number of updates to our site today.  The system was offline for approx 4-5 hours as I went through the system and made these updates.  There was a pretty big backlog and I ran through everything in a single swoop.  As always, please let me know if you see anything that isn't working right (or just looks funny).  Thank you!

Mike

Too much white space. Google did the same with their news. It is unbearable.  Made for phone GUIs suck.   If you can't afford a computer or bigger screen, you should not have a car.

Before it was full screen, but now Im getting thread info on right side and when you scroll down just blank grey space on the right.

I'm getting the 3/4 width screen also.  In the past, I would use CTRL + to fill the screen and enlarge the text, but now it just enlarges the text in the 3/4 width.

Edit - but now I see that it's been moved up to the three dot menu area.  For some reason.

3 dots up top next to the post #.

With Ipad Gen 8, but I understand why the thread is 3/4 wide. There is a new set of information at the top of the thread that fills the 1/4 on the right, but since its only 1 screen height-ish, once you scroll down, that grey 1/4 right area is empty.

Here is a screen shot at the top of this topic on my screen.

The red circled area is what takes up the right hand 1/4

Is there a way to turn that off? Likely not yet.

I used to be able to use CTRL + and the stuff on the right side would just get pushed off of the page.  Might be that "fluid" setting that was mentioned.

Actually I just tired CTRL + again and it does push the stuff off the edge if you get it to 175%.  Everything is huge then though.

Oh well.  Every web site is different.

The posts are numbered and the Share function is clearly labeled.  Overall, all of the important functions are here.  CTRL + allows a person to customized the view space.  I'd say leave it alone, it's working.

The items you guys talked about above are just changes due to the update I applied over the weekend.  I actually like the information bar on the right side because it acts as a summary for really long threads.  If you compare this to the old style (full width), there isn't much of a difference as far as I can tell.  Because most of the posts were so wide, the empty space was actually inside the post "box" and not outside of it.  This could be only on my machine though and I have a pretty wide monitor.  Unfortunately this new feature can only be changed in the site design -- it's not a user-configurable option.

The 'edit' button moving, well... old dogs will just have to learn a new trick.  😉

The thread summary is pretty awesome and has a lot of detail.  It outlines a lot of information about the post in a quick format.  When it's on the sidebar, the details stand out.  However, when it's under the first post, it just doesn't have the same kind of sparkle.

Summary on the side:

Summary after 1st post:

It is interesting to see your screenshots though.  Looks like screen resolution plays a big part in how much real estate is taken up by the sidebar.  I'm going to look to see if there's a way to make it collapsable.

Where is the mark site read button now? Use to be under the 3 dash menu at the top right

Top or bottom of the site, on the right.  👉

@EuroDat @zKars  and other tablet guys...  thanks for testing this for me.   Can you please double check to see if the sidebar is gone now?  I have an option to disable it for mobile devices and would like to know if the forum posts are now full width.  Let me know, thank you!
