royalflush313 Posted June 9, 2003 Share #1 Posted June 9, 2003 Just wanted to know how many people have added an A/C to a 240z and how much it was for parts and/or labour. Thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/6547-air-conditioning-in-240z/ Share on other sites
240ZX Posted June 9, 2003 Share #2 Posted June 9, 2003 My 240 A/C is really cheap!!! Two windows down at 40mph!!! Just some humor there. Seriously, give Motorsport Auto a call. I believe they have a complete kit available. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/6547-air-conditioning-in-240z/#findComment-40342 Share on other sites

You've just answered your own question there. Either way you will enjoy it so don't fret about which way you will go, just go and get one.:classic: Btw, I installed electric windows, central locking and it was hooked up to the alarm on my old Z. To tell you the truth seeing as the car was all original it felt wrong after I put all those things on. Besides, it's just more electrical stuff that can and will go wrong at some stage. Gav240z Posted June 10, 2003 Share #7 Posted June 10, 2003 Btw, I installed electric windows, power steering and it was hooked up to the alarm on my old Z. To tell you the truth seeing as the car was all original it felt wrong after I put all those things on. Besides, it's just more electrical stuff that can and will go wrong at some stage. Damn straight that's why I don't want to add much to my car or chop up the loom to install stuff. I will install a alarm and probably central locking but even that to me is like doing something I shouldn't.I will install a stereo but I try to stay away from aftermarket rubbish like CB radio's (my old Z had one) and thermofan's unless I go turbo one day.It might interest you to know that A/C was offered as an option on 240z's and came stock on AUS spec 260z's as far as I know anyway.I would install it but Courtesy parts price tag tells a tale as to why I haven't and probably won't for a long time if ever.It might also interest you to know that car reviews back in the 70's did mention that the Z's cockpit was humid on a hot day. The Later ZG's came with A/C and hence that's why there was 2 types of Gnose to prevent overheating.Something to consider if you have an early 240z you will want a 4 core radiator to stop overheating.I think early Z's only had 3 or even 2?? not 100% sure. CB's are ok Gav if you use them right. I love them but only the hand held two ways. I wouldn't install a permanent CB unit either. They are the best tool when cruising in a big pack. Keeps you entertained and keeps everyone together. For $99 from Tandy, that has to be the best mod I've bought for my car. Gav240z Posted June 10, 2003 Share #9 Posted June 10, 2003 I guess the CB radio isn't such a bad tool but you know what I mean all that rubbish and aftermarket junk PO's install in cars and when you get them you find all sorts of wiring issues. Oh the fun of it all . One of the things I liked about my car so much was the fact that it was so original and nearly everything electrical was still working. I hope I'm not the one to butcher the wiring installing stereo equipment :classic: . Gee Posted June 10, 2003 Share #10 Posted June 10, 2003 Funny you should say that George, your old 240 now has air-con on it. The bloke who bought it turned up to the Niss/Dat Sports Owners meeting last week and we all got to see it. Mind you, since you sold it he's spent about $3k on it... The air-con was plumbed in using an original kit too... That Ozzy Guy Posted June 10, 2003 Share #11 Posted June 10, 2003 I thought he would put in the A/c. He was asking me about it and mentioned that he knew someone in VIC selling the kits. How was the car looking? He's taking care of it naturally? Gee Posted June 10, 2003 Share #12 Posted June 10, 2003 He's a pretty proud owner. Someone at the place he got the A/C done scratched the door, so he was pretty pissed off. Other than that it seems to be the most rust free z I've ever seen (non restored), tis a shame I bought mine a few weeks before as I would have travelled to Sydney for it. I think the conversion cost him about $1,300 drivein/drive out, he's also had the chassis welded etc. I had a long chat to him as I kinda "knew" the car so I was interested to see what it looked like in real life!!It seemed like a very good car, I hope you're happy with the 8 (which I think was from Melbourne originally??), as the one you sold was bloody straight!!:classic: Gareth Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/6547-air-conditioning-in-240z/#findComment-40412 Share on other sites
