I'm going to start a thread to discuss our experiences with the club website's performance.  If you are seeing any issues, please post them here.  Likewise, if you see any improvements please reply by letting me know.  Thank you!

 

Last night I switched off DNS caching.  Here's the performance summary with DNS caching OFF.

According to this report, clicking links did improve.  You can see that value as "Time to Interactive"..  Unfortunately overall site performance did take a hit.  I didn't grab a screenshot when caching was enabled, unfortunately.  But we were at a score of D.

Not the best scores so far and I'll continue to work on it.

It is not a consistent problem.  This morning I clicked through a few links and it was quick, then got the spinning wheel and a new message, below.  Then clicked and reloaded the main page just fine.  

 

It looks like switching off the cache doesn't really benefit much.  While I have seen an improvement while clicking links, there are other downsides.  Using the cache gives me the ability to block both China and Russia (my favorite feature in the constant battle against hackers).  It also improves the page load times. 

Only downfall is that clicking links can take a bit more time.  I will plan to leave caching disabled for the day, so please let me know if you run into any other issues.

The site has been pretty snappy this morning.  No problems since that one odd message.

Of course, when I tried to reload the discover/112 page after posting the message above, I got a new error message.  I let the wheel spin for a while on the tab and opened the page from another tab and it came right up.  It seems to have something to do with "letting go" of the page you're leaving, if that makes sense.  Maybe it helps.  My theory is that Google is collecting a new batch of tracking data and it gets locked up for some reason.  Or, it could be the Russians.

I had to click on a link around 3-4 fast clicks then it came up in 2-3 sec. if i clicked the link once (as it should be) it could take a minute or more.. no messages.. just nothing. then i click it 3 times and within 2-3 seconds it came up no problem, so i always click 3 times or so..

Since a few days it now comes up after 1 click in say 2-3 sconds. But.. some times it still does not and i click it 3-4 times and after 3 sec. it usually comes up..

If i click one of the 12 links on the home page, it now comes up after 2 secs or so..  If i click home it can take a 10-50 secs..  do i click it 3-4 times it comes after a 2-3 secs.

I got a normal internet connection and a modern but nothing fancy computer. (Did'nt have a internet problem for many years..)

tested it again and it's random, the only way to get the next page/topic/home page, is to click it 3 times.. then it comes up in few secs.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the testing!  It helps me understand how many others are seeing issues so I can make informed decisions.  Right now it looks like caching doesn't make much of a difference.  The delays seem to be server-based which means I have to get to work to figure out why..  😉

I have been having trouble with the reply box. It works ok on my phone, except smilies lock it up because they are so slow to load but on my laptop the reply box wont fully load. Never gives me a cursor. As far as I know nothing has changed on my end.  This is a new occurrence in the last few days
