I agree. It's a "clickity" sound not the "tangity" sound from exhaust leaking. A short piece of hose for a stethoscope would be helpful locating the source. Car looks great! It's been enjoyable for me reading your thread. You know what you wanted and now you have it. Well done! 1 1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/65616-putting-in-a-replacement-l-28/?page=33#findComment-632602 Share on other sites

Captain Obvious Posted December 4, 2021 Share #387 Posted December 4, 2021 i'd have to hear it in person to decide if it's valve noise or just normal injector noise. In any event, the car looks great. I'm so happy you're getting some time behind the wheel! 1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/65616-putting-in-a-replacement-l-28/?page=33#findComment-632612 Share on other sites
Jeff G 78 Posted December 4, 2021 Share #388 Posted December 4, 2021 Your car looks great! Congrats on the progress. I just hear normal injector tick, not exhaust leakage or valvetrain noise. 2 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/65616-putting-in-a-replacement-l-28/?page=33#findComment-632620 Share on other sites
Av8ferg Posted December 4, 2021 Author Share #389 Posted December 4, 2021 Thanks for the tips. I have only done a cold valve adjustment so I need to get it hot and do another adjustment . The engine has less than 30 mins run time on it so I’m slowly exercising it. Yesterday the oil pressure gauge looked low to me. The scale on the gauge goes 0-90psi. The needle was sitting around 30psi. Not sure yet if this is correct. Could be the sensor which is a ZX version (2 spade connectors vs 1 bullet). I made an adaptor plug to got from bullet to spade and left on spade fitting empty. Maybe that’s the issue. To be sure you can always look under the oil fillercap during idle, but look out.. the oil can jump out the opening a bit.. If the camshaft is oiling good the rest is also good. 1 1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/65616-putting-in-a-replacement-l-28/?page=33#findComment-632632 Share on other sites

Zed Head Posted December 4, 2021 Share #392 Posted December 4, 2021 Pressure should rise with RPM. You might rev the engine and see what the needle does. The oil pressure gauge and sensors are known for their inaccuracy on these cars. siteunseen Posted December 4, 2021 Share #393 Posted December 4, 2021 You can run a gauge on the end of a couple feet of hose under the driver's wiper and watch what it does while you're driving. Thank you to @FastWoman for that trick. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/65616-putting-in-a-replacement-l-28/?page=33#findComment-632666 Share on other sites

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Oil pressure rule of thumb is 10lbs for every 1,000 rpm. So ten pounds at idle is plenty, at 7,000 rpm 70 to 80 psi is fine. A good quality (read Stewart Warner) mechanical gauge is best. For the diamond pleated covering, a heat gun helps to get it formed and stretched over the irregular shapes of the tunnel and floor. 1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/65616-putting-in-a-replacement-l-28/?page=33#findComment-632763 Share on other sites
