Patcon Posted January 4, 2022 Share #49 Posted January 4, 2022 I ran epoxy primer and then shot under coater over it. My car had been blasted on a rotisserie. I would not use wax, that's just me. A correct restoration would be primer, then paint even in the wheel wells. I like the wheel wells to be blacked out. So that is part of the reason I went with under coater. I don't intend to baby the car so I wanted something a little tougher than paint. The car is 50+ years old and this installation and these materials far exceed the factory install. It won't be a problem in my lifetime and my kids will be in their 60's before they should have to worry about it, if ever. dar5052 Posted July 10, 2022 Author Share #50 Posted July 10, 2022 Been a while since I updated this post but nothing fun has been happening and with work so busy with a lot of travel, I haven’t had much time to work on the z. I finished repairing and areas with rot and welded all new patches in. Applied POR15 where required. I’m now focusing on the underside to get it ready for undercoating. Should be finishing that up in the next two weeks. Definitely money well worth spent. I’ll be able to pressure wash and then put on my undercoat outside of the garage. Once I have the engine bay and interior painted, I can start much more reassembly. Seriously looking forward to it… I’m tired of looking at shell. Easier than doing a base coat clear coat, particularly since its esentially areas that wont be seen much. The paint and the POR15 seemed to have a reaction where the paint has a bunch of orange peel. What floor carpet do I need to order to match up to this? Or do I just order regular 280z carpet and hem the edges?
