HusseinHolland Posted November 19, 2023 Author Share #61 Posted November 19, 2023 Also - took the pass door card back off to get to the outer handle link rod - I though that was ht issue - turns out the door handle lever snapped off I'll have to order new handles Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/68298-replacing-all-large-opening-seals-hatch-small-seals/?page=6#findComment-659581 Share on other sites

There is a lot of force right there on the handle. It typically comes from people pulling the handle up too firmly until it stops. If you just pull it up enough for it to unlatch but not hit the stop it shouldn't do this Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/68298-replacing-all-large-opening-seals-hatch-small-seals/?page=6#findComment-659582 Share on other sites

They are, but clearly they can still rust depending on the grade. Mine have rust "powder" on the inner surface that presses against the door seal. You can simply swap the handles left to right. They are identical and have two arms each. When an arm breaks off, the unused arm is still good. When you swap them left to right, you are using the good arms on both handles. 4 1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/68298-replacing-all-large-opening-seals-hatch-small-seals/?page=6#findComment-659589 Share on other sites

I don't throw things away, so I was planning on saving the old ones in case the new construction doesn't past muster. HusseinHolland Posted November 20, 2023 Author Share #67 Posted November 20, 2023 Finally found a rubber seal that should work to refurbish the rear hatch Louvre. Also found a thin U-channel that will work for the center ridge. HusseinHolland Posted November 25, 2023 Author Share #68 Posted November 25, 2023 Redid the Louvre outer edging/seal The channel I bought worked, however it's not pliable to the extent of the original, so I had to cut slots where it wraps around at the top. I reversed it so the wide strip is on the inside, and works as a isolator to prevent the louvres from whacking the glass trim as it has been doing for the past 48(?) years Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/68298-replacing-all-large-opening-seals-hatch-small-seals/?page=6#findComment-659756 Share on other sites
Yarb Posted November 25, 2023 Share #69 Posted November 25, 2023 My lower brackets on the same louvre you have are reversed where they are hidden underneath. I guess it was a tech preference for whoever did the original install back in the day. I wonder if the mechanic who did mine was the same meathead who did the AC install. Neglected to review any provided directions 😞 Replaced the pass door handle over the weekend, and the belly pan today. I broke my phone last Friday, so no pics of the work Edited November 30, 2023 by HusseinHolland 5 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/68298-replacing-all-large-opening-seals-hatch-small-seals/?page=6#findComment-659846 Share on other sites
