what is the difference between a hatch back and a coupe body style on a 1990-1996 300zx?

i am asking this coz my son looks like prefer this body style rather than that of my 72 240z or his 73 240z(that i will be selling soon after i remove the 5 spd that it have).

it's all hatchback...

meaning you can sit in the seats and literally turn around and reach into the trunk because it's right there...

the rear window connects (hinges) from the roof down to the end of the trunk.... and the "hatch" (rear window"moves with the trunk when opened.

hard to explain....

anyway you can get the regular 2 seater car....

or the 2+2 meaning it has a backseat for other passengers

Other than that... 2+2's are usually heavier and are "longer"

that's about it

Technically if it's got a hatch it's not a coupe. The Definition of Coupe is a 2 door car. (no mention of a hatch) generally with a fixed rear window (not as part of the boot hatch). Usually a 2 door version of a 4 dorr desan.

All Z/ZX were 2 door hatch cars (sometimes called 3 doors which is just silly) except the convertibles. They didnt make ZX coupes. (toyota made celica hatches and coupes by the way). They did make 2 and 4 seater versions however.

People just tend to call cars with 2 doors coupes, even if they have a hatch, and especially if they are sporty.

So what's a hardtop?

(isn't it a pillarless 2 door car?)

Thats a good one. I am not sure about the 2 door end of that. But I do know my 64 four door impala is called a ( Hard Top ) from the lack of window pillers between front and rear doors.
