This is similar to what i have heard/thought also.

Are there aftermarket suppliers for rubber bushes or do we have to go to nissan?

I replaced a 2 peice steering rack bush on my brothers z31 at a cost of $50 from nissan, so i dont really want to purchase a full set at those sorts of prices.


Yeh it adds up eh DM :) OE prices are not too bad for our cars, there are some price horror stories out there for more modern bits for other cars. The thing is, after 30 years you replace them once and thats it. I aint going to complain about that.

If you are going to fit a 260Z rear sway bar maybe you shold think about fitting 260z front one also. Here in europe the 260Z items are quite a bit thicker. so if you used a 240Z front bar & a 260Z rear bar the car could have a mind of it´s own at speed !

OK, i dug out my transverse links with rubber bushes which came with the car still fitted, and to my untrained eye, they still look to be in good shape. same goes with the spindle pin bushes.

So basically my question would be, if a rubber bush looks to be ok, should it be ok ? :stupid:

If I were to re use them, should I grease them or anything?

If you do reuse them, definitely clean them up and regrease them.....especially the spindle spin itself.

Edit: Might take some pics of the 30 year old rubber bushes I just pulled out of mine....that'll show you what you DON'T want them to look like. :D

Alright, aside from being dirty, can anyone point out the major flaws in those rubber bushes and general flaws to look out for when replacing them?

I can see dags hanging off them, but to me that could be the casting marks just as easily as it could be wear/damage?

They don't look too bad to me, possibly reuseable if you are a tight arse :geek: Look also at the bearing surface on the suspension arm, if it is in good condition then that shows that the wlole lot has not been moving around loose.

Important to reinstal them correctly.

Trust me, spending already double the projected project costs, dollar savings will be taken where they can be :P

Aside from the brick dust from the drilling i was doing above, i think these bushes are salvagable ?

I took the bushes to a suspension place for advice and they recommended replacement, but obviously they would have a vested interest and they are calling me tomorrow with a quote on full nolathane bushes.

I went to Nissan as well for a quote and for all 8 rear control arm bushes we are looking at $273.00AUD :eek:
