seerex Posted December 7, 2003 Share #1 Posted December 7, 2003 is this supposed to be hooked up to anything other than the small line from my block breather that goes to my manifold, can I remove this as well? Zvoiture Posted December 7, 2003 Share #2 Posted December 7, 2003 Hey! What the hell is that? So weird...I was JUST going to post a query about that hard-line that runs to the fuel tank. And here you have a picture of it. It is on my '73. What did it do?steve77 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/9207-another-thing-to-remove/#findComment-59750 Share on other sites
Ed Posted December 7, 2003 Share #3 Posted December 7, 2003 Don't remove that. The vapors from your block and the vapors from your fuel tank go to this valve and then go to your air cleaner to get burned off in the engine. There is an old post about this somewhere. Zvoiture Posted December 7, 2003 Share #4 Posted December 7, 2003 Hmmm interesting. The vent systems on these '72's and '73's are insame. As if all that crap in the back and the air tank weren't enough, we have vapor vent lines up the ying-yang. This thing is coming out on my race car.steve77 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/9207-another-thing-to-remove/#findComment-59752 Share on other sites
seerex Posted December 7, 2003 Author Share #5 Posted December 7, 2003 hhm what if you don't have it hooked up to the air cleaner I have k&n filters what do you do with it then? Bambikiller240 Posted December 7, 2003 Share #6 Posted December 7, 2003 That picture is of the "FLOW GUIDE VALVE" it is designed to route fuel vapors that may build up in the fuel tank to one of two places. IF the engine is running, the vapors are routed to the aircleaner to be burned with the incoming air charge. If tyhe engine is NOT running, the vapors are routed to the crankcase to evaporate in there. It does not rob horsepower, or anything like that. After 30 years it is probably gummed up inside and may not be operating, but it could be restored to operating condition by cleaning in solvent (like you might clean a PCV valve).FWIWCarlIf you have K&N's without provision for it, you could just leave that nipple on the Flow Guide Valve open to atmosphere I guess. I don't *think* it would be a problem. ( My car has a K&N made to fit the stock aircleaner so I haven't had to deal with that.) seerex Posted December 7, 2003 Author Share #7 Posted December 7, 2003 i was thinking of like you said running a line maybe down to the bottom of the engine bay to take the fumes out of the area to disperse Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/9207-another-thing-to-remove/#findComment-59765 Share on other sites
owenk Posted December 8, 2003 Share #8 Posted December 8, 2003 Come on! it is not robbing HP and it is improving your fuel consumption (very small amount) BUT it reduces the amount of unburned fuel released to the air to make smog and for all of us to breathe. Do us all favor and route it to the original locationsOriginally posted by seerex i was thinking of like you said running a line maybe down to the bottom of the engine bay to take the fumes out of the area to disperse Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/9207-another-thing-to-remove/#findComment-59860 Share on other sites
seerex Posted December 8, 2003 Author Share #9 Posted December 8, 2003 I would gladly but due to the k&n filters they are no longer there , so I am trying to make it work correctly Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/9207-another-thing-to-remove/#findComment-59881 Share on other sites
