moyest Posted December 11, 2003 Share #1 Posted December 11, 2003 Well, I finally had triple Weber carbs fitted to my L24. Previously I was running standard bottom end with ported/polished head and a re-profiled cam (fairly mild). I noticed a bit of improvement in performance, especially on the highway in 3rd/4th/5th gears. Had my triple Webers fitted and tuned yesterday, on TWM manifold (thanks Tony for the complete set-up all the way from Florida to Australia). The expense was horific! The mechanic had to reshape my extractors before he could get the manifold on. He also wrapped them in heat-insulating material to stop the petrol boiling. There was more "fiddling" to get the accelerator linkage hooked up, and a few dollars spent on nylon nuts and pretty bits. End result: $1,300 spent! (that's Australian dollars... but still, thirteen hundred bucks is thirteen hundred bucks!!). Performance: Incredible 30hp gain (at rear wheels)! Incredible because the standard horsepower (at the rear wheels) is around 100hp or just under. So a gain like that must be nearly 30%! Sound: Unbelievable - with my sports exhaust set-up it used to sound like a V8 on "Ritilin", but now it sounds like a 1950's/1960's Ferrari on speed! Smell: definitely more fumes!  Message to all the weber-cynics out there: TRIPLE WEBERS ROCK! trs Posted December 11, 2003 Share #2 Posted December 11, 2003 where did you get your triples from and what size, specs are they?I have been looking for ages for a decent set of triples to no avail..Your results are all the more convincing for me since I have an almost identical setup to what you describe- my L24 is stroked to 2.8 though.**hang on just reread your post properly and realised you bought the setup from america. Was that 1300 for EVERYTHING? fitted and tuned?thats actually not a bad price considering each individual carb costs about 700 bucks bare. 2ManyZs Posted December 12, 2003 Share #3 Posted December 12, 2003 trs, you might want to look at what this guy has to offer... all you need then is the manifold and linkage.... but, for what he asks for carbs, you'd be saving enough to get most any manifold.....http://cgi6.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=alfa1750&include=0&since=-1&sort=3&rows=50 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/9275-mild-cam-triple-webers/#findComment-60367 Share on other sites
Z Kid Posted December 12, 2003 Share #4 Posted December 12, 2003 TRS there is a local guy (South Aus) who is trying to sell his webber carbs (I think they are 44's). Just came off a 260Z motor about a month ago, was running beautifully. Should be just a matter of bolting up. He wants about 1200, but I am sure he would be willing to negotiate. PM me if you want more details.Cheers Chris Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/9275-mild-cam-triple-webers/#findComment-60376 Share on other sites
moyest Posted December 12, 2003 Author Share #5 Posted December 12, 2003 TRS, I agree - if there's a guy in Aussie selling a Z set-up, take it!My quoted cost of AU$1,300 was just for the fitting and tuning!!! Because of all of the fiddling around (see my thread in the "Carburettors" section). It was nuts, but I'm happy anyway.I purchased my carbs from USA. Basically, some dude had bought them for his 240Z, then decided to buy his girlfriend an engagement ring instead. So he was flogging BRAND NEW never-been-installed Webers and TWM manifold (and linkage kit) at secondhand prices. What luck!I paid $1,300 for the entire package (including US$180 shipping). Now THAT'S saving some money! Usually they're about AU$650 to $700 per carb, so that's $2,000+ right there!Money spent from "go" to "woah" = AU$2,600.Now, for that sort of money you could probably have an entire L28 block rebuilt to whatever high-performance standards you want! (OK, maybe not, but close!)CheersZ Car Nut Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/9275-mild-cam-triple-webers/#findComment-60381 Share on other sites

2ManyZs Posted December 17, 2003 Share #8 Posted December 17, 2003 He has DCOE's as well as DCOM's but not all the time in his auctions...He's got a good variety of both Weber and Dell Orto's, so just check back on his auction page or e-mail him, I'd be willing to be he has what you want. He had some good prices on Solex the other day when I last looked.FWIW, he has rebuild kits for nearly every carb he sells, but very seldom ever lists them singly.... 2ManyZs Posted December 17, 2003 Share #12 Posted December 17, 2003 I don't think there is a huge performance difference between them, but you will find that a lot of people swear by the ones they have learned to tune. Tuning them correctly is the biggest challenge. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/9275-mild-cam-triple-webers/#findComment-60974 Share on other sites
