Do you think this "140Z" name is for a locally-made special?

I would have thought it was more likely to be either a local-territory dealer special or a porting / cam / carbs / paintjob 'special' like the "Samuri" was in the UK?

If its a genuine Factory-built derivative then its one I've never heard of.

Certainly never heard of any Factory-built cars with Dell'Orto carbs!

I'm not aware of a 140Z ever being released in Aus, seems your not convinced either?

I would suspect you are on the right track with a locally spec'd up varient of the 120Y, however 'not in Australia!

I searched on google to find that apparently these sporty L series 1.4 litres were sold as a 140Z in South Africa.......... but that doesn't mean it's true.

Ah, that explains a lot! Its one of those strange South African local-market specials. It was like the Galapagos Islands over there in the Seventies and Eighties...........

Not a proper 'Factory' edition then.

It doesnt look bad for what it is . I wonder what the handling was like, they seem to havea bit of a cult following looking at the other pictures on the web page.

As for Christmas, mine is as good as over, got a lovely present from the police yesterday in the form of not one, but two speeding fines. The bastards got me going in both dircections down the same piece of road, 7 minutes apart (recently rezoned from 60 to 50 (by removing the 60 sign, not signing it as 50)). The Z just got pushed 400 bucks further down the list of important things to do. Man I hate speed cameras.

Yeah that sucks too, I know that I will get a few of them, its a perfect scheme, speed up to clear the intersection, and get a speeding fine.

Man, that's an evil trick! Getting a ticket for trying to get out of an intersection rather than ending up skidding to a stop right in the middle. Someone needs to invent a jammer for those sensors or cover the license plates and go on late night hunting trips to see how many lights you can shoot out. There is a limit to how safe the government needs to make the world for us. Talk about "Big Brother". Wouldn't mind them in school zones though to maybe keep the kiddies a bit safer.

WOW... I am amazed on the amount of response that this thread has got!

From the few different cars I've seen on the net (google search) it looks like quite a few of them have the same 140Z badge. It may not be a Nissan world-wide car but it seems like it may be a car for a one off market?

dellorto's were like rochester or carter carbs over in italy.... DHLA 40F or H's were oem's on many cars over there.... they are also the ones the dude on ebay sells (i have a set of F's on my Z)....
