JMT240KGTR Posted January 13, 2004 Share #1 Posted January 13, 2004 Fellas, Anyone out there painted the centres only on these type of wheels. I'm contemplating getting mine done in a gun metal grey while retaining the alloy/chrome look on the 'lip' of the wheels. I think this might look quite good Any experiences/feedback appreciated, thanks guys. 260Zed Posted January 13, 2004 Share #2 Posted January 13, 2004 Yeah, although most of the ones I have seen that colour that section have been in black. Although the gun metal grey seems like an alright idea. Here is a pic from lance75_280z 's gallery of the rims in question.http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5273&password=&sort=7&thecat=998Luke Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/9706-280zx-series-2-rims/#findComment-63989 Share on other sites

Victor Laury Posted January 13, 2004 Share #4 Posted January 13, 2004 I think those look best polished! They are a hit with the roadster crowd, as they have the perfect offset.Isn't it true that you MUST use the special Nissan lugs with all these XZ wheels? DatsunZGuy Posted January 13, 2004 Share #5 Posted January 13, 2004 I restored and polished set of six spokes for my car using Dupli-Color High Performance Wheel Coating "HWP 102 Graphite" Albeit, I didn't completely paint the spokes.CLICK HERE I also used this paint along with clear flat to match the original factory anthracite (argent) color of the front grill and rear panel on my 72. kmack Posted January 13, 2004 Share #6 Posted January 13, 2004 I have a set of 6-spokes that I polished up similar to DastunZGuy's set. The "star" pattern is highly polished w/ the inlays painted Nissan Silver (touch-up paint), and the outer rim is somewhat duller polished (not as mirror-like as the star). It still keeps the overall look of the wheel bright, w/o being too overly chrome looking. But still shows some distinction between the different areas of the wheel. I don't have a close up of the wheels, but here is a picture of them on the car in good light. JMT240KGTR Posted January 13, 2004 Author Share #7 Posted January 13, 2004 Thanks for the feedback fellas.Michael (kyteler) don't know what computer program you have that enables you to do that magic, but well done. Any chance of finishing that wheel off with some clear coat??!! :classic: I'm a little undecided what route to take with my almost sprayed 240K/C110 coupe. It's a gold colour and I'm not so sure the complete all alloy wheel is the look I'm after. If anything I'm probably leaning towards painting the centres, kytelers pic didn't look too bad.If anyone else has more pics/feedback would be much appreciated.James Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/9706-280zx-series-2-rims/#findComment-64073 Share on other sites
kyteler Posted January 13, 2004 Share #8 Posted January 13, 2004 James, I've attched a new picture, perhaps it is more to your liking. The magic that allows me to do such things as this is, being an unemployed nerd an unemployed artsie nerd :beard: too much time on my hands and a copy of Adobe Photoshop. JMT240KGTR Posted January 13, 2004 Author Share #11 Posted January 13, 2004 Michael, If you get minute do you think you can do me a favour? Convert the car in the attched picture to a gold colour, and add in the wheels you mocked up for me. Up for the challenge?! gt-r1.bmp Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/9706-280zx-series-2-rims/#findComment-64103 Share on other sites
