blitzkraig Posted January 20, 2004 Share #1 Posted January 20, 2004 So I swapped in the 280zx dizzy on my 240 and my stock tach works just fine. Before I did the swap I pulled a tach from a 75 280 (gauge looks the same!) in case my stock one didn't work. I have the dash out right now and am swapping everything over to a restored dash and am just wondering if I should put in the 75 tach or keep the stock one in since its so convenient right now? Thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/9797-quick-tach-question/ Share on other sites
Mr Camouflage Posted January 20, 2004 Share #2 Posted January 20, 2004 You say the stock 240z tach works. What do you mean "in my case the stock one didnt work"?I'd use the 240z tach if it works. blitzkraig Posted January 21, 2004 Author Share #3 Posted January 21, 2004 I had read on the Z garage website that sometime the stock 240 tach doesn't work with the dizzy upgrade. So while I was at the junkyard I saw a 75 280 with a good tach so I pulled it out anticipating that my stock tach wouldn't work. 260Zed Posted January 21, 2004 Share #4 Posted January 21, 2004 My apologies for hijacking your thread, but I've got an inductive loop style tacho that is misbehaving in my zed, today I bought a 280zx tacho guts. Now apart from the mechanism that actually pulls the arm around they look totally different to me. The faces are differ as to the position of the arm at whatever rev, so I cant just change the face. No ive got no idea when it comes to electronics,:stupid: but is there anyway I can make this work?Anybody?FWIW I've got the 280zx dizzy and coil, and you can make it work with the original tacho... Thanks I did the same dizzy swap on my 240 at first the tach didn't work but I reversed the + and - on the coil and she works fine. I think the stock tach won't work if you use an aftermarket ignition like MSD or something.
