MDyer Posted January 21, 2004 Share #1 Posted January 21, 2004 I have a low-miles L28 w/ P79 head. I know that I'm going to add the MSA cam with slalom grind (.480 lift, 260 duration) and headers.I'm undecided on whether to stick w/ fuel injection or switch to triple Webers. With the above mods in place, can I add the carbs later. And if so, is this a good match? 280zx Fever Posted January 22, 2004 Share #2 Posted January 22, 2004 Try to source either a P90 head or a N42 Head by memeory both are better then the P79 and the P90 is better again then the n42 And a F54 Short block would be a good choise with the flat top pistons Personally id stick with Fuel Injection... just go after market managment.. Some nice big injectors and a custom plenum and your laughing Good luck Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/9822-ready-to-begin-build-up-of-81-l28/#findComment-65348 Share on other sites
MDyer Posted January 22, 2004 Author Share #3 Posted January 22, 2004 I already own the 81 motor.I've always heard that the P79 is much better than the N42; maybe I'm wrong.I thought he P90 head is for Turbo. texasz Posted January 22, 2004 Share #4 Posted January 22, 2004 Read up on Z Garage and you will know all about the mods you want to make with the exception of the N42, he doesn't talk about that head. From the research I have done the F54 block with flat-top pistons and the N42 head are better than the same block with a P90 only because it's cheaper. What I mean by that is you have to shave the P90 and then shim the cam towers to achieve the same compression ration as just bolting on a stock N42 head to the same block; the compression ration for this block with an N42 head is supposed to be 10:1. I'm building mine in the garage now with an N42 head. :classic: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/9822-ready-to-begin-build-up-of-81-l28/#findComment-65367 Share on other sites
