Oh yes, they have been built.

At least 1 to my knowledge as the famous Dazda. Campaigned with limited success in Victorian Rally circles in the 80's.

Body 510 motor Rotary.

Haven't heard of anyone using it in a s-30 series. Suspect there is very little to gain as the power to weight ratio is similar to using a L24 or L26.

dont believe any datsuns ever had rotarys as an option

It was a common modification to put a rotary in the 510 datsun but they ended up banning this in rally 's as they where too good

Have raced a rx4 mazda with 13b rotary for the last 4 years and i luv the power of the rotary mine has been rebuilt as a j port with 48 mm weber good around 300 hp at the flywheel

They really are cheap hp but what i luv is the rx4 bodies are cheap bend anything and you can fix it cheap My zed is a bit to close to heart to race 10/10 while the mazda i dont care about so i can go 10/10

My motor with the j port dosent make much hp below 3500 rpm but the screams to 8800 rpm

Cant say id think it was a great idea to put a rotary in a zed though

Geez, a 13B(rotary eng.) would be dwarved in the Zeds engine bay! People have put rotarys in everything... BMW's, Datsun 1600's(510), Carolla's etc. etc.

I recon a 13B or 20B Zed would be cool! Imagine the sound coupled with the look!!!

Because its a rotary you cant reallly comapre the displacement of the engine in the same way as a piston engine ccar. The 13B is actually more equivelent in displacement to a 2.6 litre piston engine than a 1.3 litre.
